This is "The Muses" by Maurice Denis 1893. Now I know what Anicka was doing that year. She was even reading.

I got to see that at the DeYoung Museum! Apparently she was married to Maurice Denis as well, for that is supposed to be his wife in all of his paintings.

He married his wife in 1893 according to wikipedia. He was very religious, which doesn't seem to be Anicka's cup of tea. The center muse looks different from the rest. Perhaps the model was Marthe's sister? Or maybe it's just me projecting onto the painting.

We saw it at the de Young also. I'm not much of a fan of Denis. However I love Van Gough and Seurat.
