Dear Yuletide writer,
Thank you so much for writing for me! I'm so excited to see what you have in store.
I put some details in my signup, but I thought I'd flesh them out a little more for you, maybe give you some more ideas.
The Americans:
I love this show, I love this family, I love the particular time period in which it is set- 80s capitalism, Reaganomics and the Reagan Doctrine, a movement towards more social liberalism in the US. Philip's comment to Elizabeth about turning the kids into little socialists really intrigued me- how do their ideologies and goals play out in family life? How do they respond when the kids really want to talk about the world around them? Is there a way that they can frame their worldview for their very American, capitalist kids? I would love a fic that explored this- maybe a reaction to a homework project, or something on television, or maybe Paige seeing some example of extreme poverty and wondering why that happens in such a rich country. Elizabeth has backed down from such discussions before (like when Reagan was shot, or with Paige's history homework) but I'd love to see how she handles a conversation like that as well as how Philip handles a conversation like that, given their different feelings on their lives.
Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles:
Sarah Connor is awesome and I love the complicated way she relates to robots, given that they are doom incarnate but also, frequently, her son's protection when she is not enough. Any fic that centered around the weird little Connor homelife, especially if the chaos they live with is a really strong theme running throughout (like the surreality of cleaning guns on the kitchen table, Cameron cutting into herself for perform maintenance, etc) I would love to see.
The Brothers Bloom:
I love these characters! I would love to see more brotherly shenanigans, more of Bang Bang, maybe a 5+1 of times they didn't meet Penelope but could have, and once they did, just... the whole con artists and magical realism and the weird little family they have, all put together- put it in a blender and make whatever kind of smoothie you like. :)
Elementary:
Joan Watson and Irene Adler/Jamie Moriarty are the most mindblowingly amazing ladies to be on my screen in the past year, and there have been some awesome fucking ladies, I have to say. Just interaction and their views of each other, or total femslash. I want the focus on them, but I'm sure Sherls will pop up to offer his opinion on anything and everything. Maybe Joan goes to visit Moriarty in prison? Maybe Moriarty is sending letters to Joan too? I just want more of these fabulous laaaaaaaadieeeeeeeees.
Just in general:
I love many things about fic, and you can see this from any of my past writing, but the main things, generally speaking, that really make me happy are chosen families, non-traditional relationships/partnerships, LADIES BEING FABULOUS, historical context shaping characters, heists, cheerful criminality, and co-dependency.
There are a few things I'm not really into, though. Non-con or dub-con is a definite turn-off if characters are going to be having sexytimes. I'm not really into male slash (nothing against it, I read it sometimes, it's just that I love reading about ladies and that gets into being too many dicks on the dance floor). And... that's about it that I can think of when it comes to the possibilities of these prompts!
Again, I appreciate your writing so much and I can't wait to see what you write!
