I'm glad to hear Izzy is fine. It must have been terrifying. Maybe this experience will deter him from doing that kind of thing in the future. I don't know how obstinate Izzy can be, but it might be worth considering a very mild smack during any future instances just to let him know that you don't approve. Better a little crying than a frightening visit to the ER.
Uh. I don't hit my children for discipline. Ever. I WAS, however, smacking his face to try and arouse him to consciousness. I also had an ice pack on his cheek. He was non-responsive, hitting him for discipline would have done nothing.
I understand. I wasn't recommending laying one down on Izzy if he went unconscious again. I simply meant that if he attempted to hold his breath again before losing consciousness you might want to do something to stop the behavior. I didn't mean in a way that was intended to inflict pain, just a light tap with the tips of your fingers while wearing a scowl to make your disapproval clear.
As I indicated, I don't know your child well enough to know if this would even work and you may disagree with this approach as a matter of principle. I generally don't approve of spanking myself, but I would make an exception if the health of the child was immediately threatened.
In any event, I'm glad to hear he's doing well. I hope you're feeling better also.

I am pretty sure that she was 1000% less freaked out given your circumstances. :(
