I once translated some of my own "baby talk" for my mom. I was probably in my late teens and she was reminiscing about how they'd figured out how to translate most of my baby "words", but there was one they never figured out. I explained it meant the diamond shaped logo of a local grocery store. Not the store itself, just the logo, which, for whatever reason, had a particular fascination for me. Not quite as good as the revolving Mobil flying horse sign, or watching trains cross the street a half block from our house, but clearly right up there, enough so that I remembered what it meant.
(That Marianne Faithfull version of Working Class Hero is one of my favorites of her work.)
