Happy Birthday Mom!

Today is my Mom’s birthday. I spent the day with my Dad helping him pick out gifts for her. After we did that I felt compelled to do something about the New Orleans situation. The only thing I could think of was to donate blood. It was my first time, as I was ineligible to donate until this year. It’s amazing the questions they have to ask. Even after the extensive survey of my sex life, they anonymously let me choose to “Use” or “Don’t use” my blood in case I didn’t want to answer the questions truthfully. Unfortunately I had a newbie drawing my blood. The needle hurt going in and my vein kept collapsing. They finally had to put a cuff on me to keep pressure behind my vein. Anyway, I was a total wuss afterwards. I got lightheaded and almost fainted. I had to put my finger and my thumb in the shape of an “L” on my forehead. What a loser.

After coming to my senses I went to Lifetime Fitness and signed both myself and Adam up for membership. It’s a pretty cool gym. It doesn’t hold a candle to the Rec Center, but it’s the closest I’ve seen to it. As part of my membership I get a consultation with a personal trainer and nutritionist. So I’ve got appointments set up to see those guys.

After Mom got off work I went over to see her. Since she and my dad are on a diet we didn’t go out to dinner. That really sucked since eating out is our family’s primary form of entertainment. Instead she had some cereal for dinner and we watched the last half of Forest Gump on TNT before she fell asleep in her chair. That’s what we call birthday fun. Oh well. At least she liked her gifts. My dad went overboard and bought her an iPod, the latest Palm and a 1G flash card. I made her a picture of us from the wedding with my l337 new Photoshop skillz and a Yogalates book. Happy Birthday Mom!
