ACT 1
SCENE 1
OPEN CURTAIN

The curtains open to a normal, inconspicuous office. We see a man working steadily away at his
desk in the middle of the office, being almost mocked by the looming stacks of paper around him.
He is a tall man, close to six feet in height. He is dressed in the normal apparal; button up shirt
and tie, dress shoes pants. He has a headful of grey hair, no doubt having to due with his career
choice of having to work with little juvenille delinquints all day He glances up to the clock and
we can tell by his lowered pace when he returns to working that quittin' time is still a long
ways off.

MR. THORNDUCK: (leans foward and presses a button on a box on his desk)
Mrs. Sanberg? Could you please page Miss Shakin and
tell her to come to my office at once?

MRS. SANBERG: (Offstage)(staticy voice as if through phone/room
to room intercom) Right away Mr. Thornduck.

MR. THORNDUCK: Thank you, Mrs. Sanberg. (Mr. Thornduck sits back down in his chair
and turns his chair so that his body is nearly perpendicular to the
audience. He then places both hands behind his head like the way
police tell you to put them so they can hancuff you. A deep sigh
escapes from him. Shortly thereafter, there come three short, sharp
knocks on the door) Come in.

MISS SHAKIN: Mr. Thornduck? You wanted to see me?

Miss Shakin could be described as one of those determined mothers who are willing
to sacrifice time with their kids in order to show the world that they can make it on
their own. Her voice is a gentle one. Not the doting kind of gentle, but more an
easy-going, approachable kind of gentle. Her jet black hair is a sign of either
her youth, or the great lengths she will go in order to maintain that appearance
of being young. Even if it means daily applications of shoe polish. She too is
dressed in the normal work apparel; a red, silk button-up shirt, a black knee length
skirt and heels.

MR. THORNDUCK: Yes. Could you please take a look at that file?

(Brief pause. Miss Shakin puts on her confused face and looks around the room.)

MISS SHAKIN: I would gladly, but where is the file?

MR. THORNDUCK: In my pants!
