The sun will set without thy assistance.

My idea of "The Coast" has always been an east/west one. The idea of the sun not rising or setting over the ocean was almost unfathomable. It's odd to wake up and look directly out over the ocean and have the sun rising to my right hand side, over land, while the grey-blue sea meets and an equally grey-blue sky. But that's Wewak, on the northern ( Read more... )

Thanks. It's something I am going to leave for a few weeks then go back and fix up the little bits that don't quite work and flesh it out more. But all in all I'm pretty happy with it.

Anywhere it gets to 30 degrees by 9am is my kind of place. Looks and sounds awesome. Especially all the critters at the hotel etc - thats tropical at adventuring at its best.

Tropical adventures do have disadvantages though, like Malaria. It's also sucky weather to do network caballing in. But if you want to just get away from cities and sit in your beachfront hotel room, drinking beer and chatting with the owner who has a Lord Kitchener moustache, then it's the place to be.

Awesome. Sounds like some of the cool places in Southern Thailand we visited. Although in some our hotel rooms were more like "shacks" but then they were still right on the beach and there was a bar that sold 40c beer. me no complain!!!

Beer here is about $2 a pop. And my hotel room was very shack-like, and twice as expensive as the four-star one I stayed in the week before in Moresby. But it had a tv and air con and geckos, so I was happy.

I'd like to travel through SE Asia, I really want to go to Viet Nam. Is Thailand awesome?

So was the bar. It was decorated with a cast-iron plate of the Kaiser's profile (might also have been Bismark or Lord Kitchener) and a turn of the century German colonial flag. Oh, and nude female body builders.

I went nuts trying to get a whole pile of pictures to capture it, but the colours and shapes kept changing. I now have about 30 photos of the one sun set. It was pretty cool.
