Climbing the mountain of TBR books

Nov 30, 2011 20:19

calico_reaction pointed me to the Mount TBR Reading Challenge 2012.

This is perfect for me. I have so many books lying around that I've been meaning to get to "someday." So I am taking up the challenge, and counting only books that I actually own, as physical print books, right now.

I am setting a modest goal of Mt. Vancouver (25 books), since I will still be doing my books1001 thing next year (we aren't even close to halfway done with the list yet), and of course I want to reserve some slots for books I haven't scheduled or been "assigned." But if I get all the way through my 25 books early, I may go for Mt. Ararat (40 books) as I'll still have dozens of unread books on my shelves.

So, here are the books that are actually, physically, literally in my TBR pile right now which I am going to read in 2012.

Ship of Fools, by Richard Russo
Shine: An Anthology of Optimistic SF, edited by Jetse DeVries
Cloud Atlas, by David Mitchell
Ou Lu Khen and the Beautiful Madwoman, by Jessica Amanda Salmonson
Fledgling, by Octavia Butler
The Eye of the World, by Robert Jordan
The Man of Gold, by M.A.R. Barker
Timothy and the Dragon's Gate, by Adrienne Kress
Swan Song, by Robert McCammon
Homicide: A Year on the Killing Streets, by David Simon
Birth of the Chess Queen, by Marilyn Yalom
Silently and Very Fast, by Catherynne M. Valente
Straying from the Path, by Carrie Vaughn
Little, Big, by John Crowley
Brightness Reef, by David Brin
Infinity's Shore, by David Brin
Heaven's Reach, by David Brin
Yonder Comes the Other End of Time, by Suzette Haden Elgin (which means I have to reread her Ozarker trilogy first)
Emma, by Jane Austen
Crime and Punishment, by Fyodor Dostoevsky (technically a reread, but I haven't read it since high school, so I'm counting it)
Musashi, by Eiji Yoshikawa (technically this was one book, but my English translation is a set of five paperbacks, so I am counting it as five.)

Anyone else want to join?
