Yes, I think you should! I would recommend Trickster's Choice and Trickster's Queen, I forget which is first? But those books are great!
I like the Alanna series but it's her first one and you can kind of tell. The Protector of the Small series is really enjoyable too! I feel like the writing in those books really reflects the no-nonsense stick-to-your-guns attitude of the main character. I ate those books up last year! (They were delicious. =9 )
I am currently reading (when I have the time [so i'll finish by the time i'm 50 maybe]) the Circles series (circle of magic, the circle opens, etc) which is about 4 adorable magically gifted problem children orphans and has the perfect balance of domesticity and lesbian subtext and subdued magical feats, IMO.
Hahaha, I think that article light-heartedly articulated a lot of what just failed to really grab me about the HP series (i.e. the dynamics of the main cast) but that I could never quite suss out what it was myself. Thanks for the link!
It is the most lighthearted set of back-handed compliments I think I have ever read. =] I am a fan of the HP series but I agree wholeheartedly with a lot of the points it raised, and I think that's a fair contributing factor to why as soon as I discovered Homestuck, I dropped HP like it was hot. (Add to this that a huge part of HP's appeal for me was the characters of the Sirius Black & Remus Lupin, who aren't even really in half the books.)
