[It's been a while since Asuka's used the comms--he's been around, and he's been listening, but he's been trying to familiarize himself with the ship more than anything ( Read more... )

What's a sunset?

[Also augh -more reading!- Asuka scowls at the comm, then starts messing around with various buttons. He'll figure out how to make it talk if it's the last thing he does!]

...You've honestly never seen one before?

[Now that just makes Jael sad.]

[More frowning! He still doesn't know what one -is-; how does he know if he's ever seen one before?]

No? What is it?

It doesn't die! Right?

[Joey isn't angry, just the concept itself throws her into a panic. No sun, no tides, no sunshine, no sun-bathing...]

[If you listen, you can hear Asuka releasing a "fffff!" of air before he speaks!]

What else would it do? First it starts falling out of the sky, and then it goes below the horizon and suddenly the sky's gone the color of blood? Something's killing the sun--that's the only thing that makes sense!

That's... [Joey and science have never met. She knows the basics.]

Wouldn't it be kind of hard to make a different sunset every day? What could make so much fire?

Do people die the same way every time? Why would the sun die the same way every time? It makes so much fire because it's the source of heat and light! You have to get it from somewhere, you know. It makes sense that its death would be so dramatic.

It's called a sunset.

[The response may have been a text message, but the person who sent it is standing right behind Asuka.]

[No, seriously, what is -with- all these people and them making him -read-? Asuka scowls at the comm, before responding to it verbally.]

It's called weird, is what it is. Who ever heard of something like that?

[He gives no indication of acknowledging the man behind him, though you can bet your britches he knows the man's there!]

[Notice that the man behind you is pushing buttons on his own comm? It takes him a little while to respond again because he has to translate the audio message into Italian text. And no, he's not going to tell you that he's right behind you because communicating this way is much more convenient for him. At least he can translate everything.]

Everyone.

[He notices that the guy behind him isn't -doing- anything, but he's still not going to turn around just yet.]

Clearly not everyone--I've never heard of a sunset!

[That said, he's half-turning to catch a glimpse of the man behind him. Not saying anything, but just looking to see who it is that's behind him.]
