From Nonny - Why don't you keepp it for whoever you want
“Peter?” Nellie murmurs sleepily into Peter’s bare chest, toying with the chain between her fingers. “I’ve been meaning to ask…” She pushes herself off his chest and leans heavily on her elbow. “Why do you have two rings?”
“They were my parents’,” he explains lazily. “It was given to me after they died.”
“I’m sorry.”
“It’s fine,” he smiles, running his fingers through her mused hair. “I don’t remember them. I found it last night, thought I should wear it.”
“It’s really pretty.”
“Yeah,” Peter shrugs, nudging her lie back down on his chest. “I guess my dad had a pretty good eye for expensive rocks.”
Nellie rolls her eyes. “Expensive rocks. Peter Vincent, ever the romantic. I’m glad you got to keep it though.”
“Try it,” he shoves the chain carrying the two rings into her palm.
Nellie pauses for a moment before hesitantly slipping the smaller of the two rings into her finger. “It fits,” she breathes. He feels his heart race when she holds up her hand, the ring twinkling in dark room only illuminated by the city lights. “It’s beautiful.”
“Why don’t you keep it?”
“I can’t, Peter. It belonged to your mum.”
“Now it belongs to you, Babe. What am I going to do with two rings anyway?”
“Are you sure?”
“Only if you promise to never take it off. It’s not a proposal or anything,” he adds quietly, twisting his body so he can face her. “You know I still…marriage is still not my thing. Commitment still scares me. It doesn’t mean I love you any less.”
“I know, you idiot.”
Peter smiles into the kiss. “So, you’ll keep it?”
“I’ll keep it.”
