Plane Sexy AU One room. One bed. Two people. The joys of staying in an overbooked hotel.
“What do you mean you’re overbooked?”
“I’m sorry, Miss Noble,” the nice lady, Anna, from behind the front desk smiles apologetically. “There seems to be a mistake and there’s only one room left for you and Mr Smith.” Donna rolls her eyes when she sends him a flirty smile.
“Does the room at least have two beds?” Anna shakes her head regrettably. Yes, you must feel really sad that you’re not the one to share a bed with skinny boy, she thinks. John, however, doesn’t seem to notice the attention and flirty looks he’s been getting from this sweet little blond girl. Not unusual. “What are we going to do, John?”
“Take the room,” he shrugs, “I can sleep on the floor.”
“I can’t make you do that.”
“We can figure out the sleeping arrangements later. We don’t have other options. Besides, I’m so tired I can fall asleep in the bathtub.”
They finally get to their room and John unceremoniously drops his bag by the door, kicks his shoes off and drops down on the floor. “What are you doing?”
“I’m tired.”
“Why are you sitting on the floor? There’s a perfectly good bed about two inches away from you.”
“It’s your bed.” John looks up at her with those sweet puppy eyes and it’s a good thing she’s not the hormonal school girl she once was or they’d be in a lot of trouble.
The ginger rolls her eyes lovingly and drags him from his spot on the floor and pushes him towards the bed. “We’re adults, we can share a bed without it being weird. Just stay on your side,” she warns.
“Thank you,” he practically beams and hugs her. The hug was far too brief for it to mean anything but it left Donna a little breathless and confused.
She runs a towel through her red hair as she emerges from the shower and finds John already fast asleep on his side of the bed. At least he’s not one of those men who takes up the entire bed, she thinks. She climbs into bed as gently as she can, making sure to not wake him because while she has gotten the chance to take a short nap during the flight, he stayed up all night with Benedick. She sighs contentedly as she settled under the covers when John turns to lay on his side, coming face to face with her. It catches her off guard, not in a bad way just in an ‘I’m not expecting to want to watch you sleep but here I am’ kind of way.
She studies his face she likes that he has really long lashes and that his hair stay upright while he’s asleep. How does he keep it that way, she will never know. Not that she minds because she sort of likes it that way. It works for him.
She lets herself succumb to sleep and when she wakes up, she has somehow migrated from her side of the bed, into his arms and he’s holding onto her like she’s his personalised body pillow. Sleepily, she tries to move away but she wakes him instead.
“What time is it?” he murmurs, keeping his eyes closed.
“Midnight,” she replies, swallowing thickly.
“I don’t like midnight.” She doesn’t understand why or what that means but he tightens his arms around her, crushing her face into his chest. There’s no room for her arms between them and she ends up warping her arm around his waist, careful to avoid touching his cute bum. How has she never noticed that his arms are so strong or that his chest is so muscular?
“Are you hungry?” she asks, trying to find a way to move away from him. “We could go get dinner.”
“Too tired to eat.”
She bites back a gasp when his lips brush across her forehead. It’s probably nothing, he probably doesn’t even know his lips are planted firmly on her skin, she thinks to herself. The warmth of John’s hand on the small of her back and his other hand caressing the soft skin on the back of her neck sends shivers down her spine. This feels more intimate than anything she has ever experienced, including sex and she can’t remember being cuddled like this even after sex. No one has held her like this in her life and they’re not even sleeping together.
“Donna?”
“Yes?”
“You smell nice,” he whispers, his nose in her hair. “You smell like apples. I like apples.”
“You’re talkative even when you’re half asleep,” she comments and tries not to think about how nice he smells too, or how much she likes it.
He grins sleepily, “go to Disneyland with me tomorrow, Donna.”
“Why? We’re not seven.”
“Disney doesn’t care.”
“John,” she sighs.
“I’ll buy you Mickey Mouse ice cream sandwiches. Please?” John finally opens his eyes and he looks so cute that Donna’s lost all ability to reject him.
“Fine.” He beams again, brushing his lips over hers and sighs happily. “Did you just…” she looks up at him, her mind at a lost from the contact of his soft lips against hers, only to find that he’s asleep again. “John?”
He grunts in response and Donna’s left alone to wonder how much of their conversation does he remember. Maybe it’s all just a dream for him. She groans inwardly because she knows she’s going to have a sleepless night thanks to him. She wants to be mad at him and slap him awake but when she sees that peaceful smile on his sleeping face, she can’t bear to do that.
Eventually, sleep took over again and she’s finding it a lot harder to deny that sleeping in John’s arms is probably one of the best feelings in the world, right after the sensation of his lips against hers.
