Too Long (Sarah / Alec)

From Nonny - Apocolypse AU for Alec and Sarah please???

Sarah clutches her weapon tightly in her hands - or a non-stick frying pan as people would call it before this damned apocalypse - as she treads carefully through this abandoned building. She’s breathing heavily, adrenaline is rushing through her veins as if she was on a roller coaster. The urge to run for her life and throw up simultaneously is driving her insane. It’s been days, or at least she thinks so. It’s impossible to keep track of how much time has passed without a watch. She had stupidly got lost and brilliantly kept herself alive all by herself while searching for her people. She thinks the only reason she managed to stay alive was that she hasn’t run into anything that can kill her yet.

So, when she hears the dreaded creaking of the hardwood floors as if there is someone or something else in the building with her, she does everything she can to stop herself from crying and screaming. Whatever this thing is, it’s not taking her down. Damn it. Sarah Postern will not go down easy, she tells herself as she hides in the dark corner, waiting for whatever it is to come to her.

She holds her breath, her knees shaking when the creaking becomes louder and closer to her. Her hands hurt from holding onto her weapon so tightly and her heart is beating so loudly she’s worried that whoever it is in the building with her can hear it.

She jumps, whimpering silently when a ray of light filters into the room she’s in through the door. At least if she had to run, there’s another door on the other side of the room. Unless they’ve surrounded building then she’s dead meat.

Dread fills her as she waits.

The moment she spots the shadow, she leaps from her hiding spot and pounces onto the figure with everything that is left in her.

“Wait!”

Sarah lowers the pan as soon as she notices the human quality of the stranger’s voice but still holds it tightly in her hands.

Just in case.

“Wait. I’m not one of them,” he announces. “I’m human, like you.”

“You’re human too?”

“I’m Alec,” he breathes.

“Sarah. Are you alone too?”

“Too?” Alec frowns, brushing his fringe away from his forehead. “How long have you been alone, Darlin’?”

At any other time, in any other world, she would have blushed so hard at the term of endearment. She would have been flustered by the fact that his shirt has been ripped in some places and she can see his abs or the fact that his eyes are like the warm chocolate cake she loves so much.

“Too long,” she whispers and her tears starts falling uncontrollably, dropping her pan onto the floor with a loud clang. “I got lost a few days ago,” she sobs, “I didn’t think I was going to see any person again.”

“I’m so sorry,” he murmurs. He gently takes her hands, careful not to startle this beauty before him. “If you’d like, you could come with us.”

Sarah lets out a little sigh, revelling in the warmth of Alec’s hands gently wrapped around hers. It really has been too long. “Us?”

“My brothers and their girlfriends.”

“I’d love that. Being alone is too scary.”

“I can’t even being to imagine,” he smiles. He picks up her pan and grins. “Interesting choice for a weapon.”

“It was the only thing I could find!”

“You’re so brave.”

“Alec!”

Startled, Sarah jumps a little and maintains a death grip on his hands. He smiles and squeezes her hand. “It’s okay. That’s my brother. I’m here in, Peter! I found another survivor!”

“Then get the fuck out of there already! It’s getting dark. We need to leave soon!”

Alec turns to her with a smile on his face. “We found a place to stay. You’ll be safe but I’m not sure if you’ll see your people again.”

“I understand. Thank you for saving me.”

“ALEC!”

“Ready, Darlin’?”

“Let’s get out of here.”
