Body and Appearance
1. Describe the character's height and build. Is he heavyset, thin, short, rangy? Extremely muscular, 6'1", and lithe in general.
2. How old is he? 20~
3. Describe his posture. Does he carry himself well or does he slouch? Like a wildfire holding back from rushing ahead and burning everything. Except when he's asleep, then he looks dead.
4. How is his health? Is he fit or out of shape? Any illnesses or conditions? Any physical disabilities? Super physically healthy.
5. How does he move? Is he clumsy, graceful, tense, fluid? Fast and very much like a surfing acrobat. He loves doing jumps and flips and can jump RIDICULOUSLY high.
6. How attractive is this character physically? How does he perceive himself in the mirror? >> On a scale of 1 to 10 he KNOWS he's an 11. :| He uses the freckles to look cute when he wants to and otherwise just tries to be sexy and cool and for the most part he seems himself as a bit goofier than the rest of the world sees him (usually) but he tries to be cool and hot.
7. Describe his complexion. Dark, light, clear, scarred? Freckled! Mine has freckles all over.
8. Describe his hair: color, texture, style. Black, floppy, soft and with a tendency to hang and curl very slightly on the ends.
9. What color are his eyes? Chocolate brown.
10. Does the character have any other noteworthy features? I mentioned freckles yes?? XD He also has tattoos. One of "ASCE" with the S crossed out and one giant one across his back of Whitebeard's crew. This is one of the reasons why he doesn't wear shirts too.
11. What are his chief tension centers? Shoulders and SPINE. Very much the spine. Also a little just above his ass on the back.
12. What is the character's wardrobe like? Casual, dressy, utilitarian? Bright colors, pastels, neutrals? Is it varied, or does he have six of the same suit? He loves brightly colored & orange things. SO VERY MUCH. He loves Hat (his orange cowboy hat with freakish comedy/drama faces and red beads), red bead necklace, and only wears board shorts and sneakers. He no longer like black clothes. He also has a flame jacket he likes.
13. Do his clothes fit well? Does he seem comfortable in them? They're very loose. And comfortable but basically about to fall off. The only reason the shorts don't fall off is the lurid orange belt.
14. Does he dress the same on the job as he does in his free time? If not, what are the differences? He's prone to disguising himself for jobs... but he's horrible at it. Even when it it works, it's pretty bad.
15. You knew it was coming: Boxers, briefs or commando? Commando 95% of the time. The rest is flame-print boxers or just really bright ones THAT BLIND YOU.
Speech
1. What does this character's voice sound like? High-pitched, deep, hoarse? Fairly smooth and even and I just traumatized myself finding out he has the same V.A. as Ataru Moroboshi from Urusei Yatsura. *ROLLS AROUND*
2. How does he normally speak? Loud, soft, fast, evenly? Does he talk easily, or does he hesitate? Fast, playfully with undercurrents of darkness/rage, he laughs a lot and easily and grins more.
3. Does the character have a distinct accent or dialect? Any individual quirks of pronunciation? Any, like, you know, verbal tics? Actually... no. Aside from the narcolepsy.
4. What language/s does he speak, and with how much fluency? Japanese & English
5. Does he switch languages or dialects in certain situations? Nope~ But all his attack names are in Japanese
6. Is he a good impromptu speaker, or does he have to think about his words? Mah, he doesn't take the time to think things out usually so it's all "BAM EXPLOSION" which can lead to IC confusions.
7. Is he eloquent or inarticulate? Under what circumstances might this change? Pretty inarticulate. He's not always completely sure of what he's saying and he doesn't use a lot of big or always the "right" words.
Mental and Emotional
1. How intelligent is this character? Is he book-smart or street-smart? All street smarts. He can read, but he's mostly only smart about people, fighting, sailing, alcohol, and eating food. No really. He IS smarter than he acts, but not completely.
2. Does he think on his feet, or does he need time to deliberate? Only on his feet really.
3. Describe the character's thought process. Is he more logical, or more intuitive? Idealistic or practical? Impulsive, instinctive, and idealistic. He tends to think "this is the way things SHOULD be, so they must be this way" until proven wrong and even then it almost has to be beaten into his head. Multiple times.
4. What kind of education has the character had? Fighting from GARP. And mountain path training against wild animals to make himself strong!
5. What are his areas of expertise? What, if anything, is he interested in learning more about? Sailing, fighting, FIRE. He wants to know more about music, vehicles, and secretly about cooking but he knows he doesn't have enough patience to make cooking an art and that if he falls asleep; instant burning. He canon makes AWESOME coffee.
6. Is he an introvert or an extrovert? Extrovert completely. He needs to be surrounded by people.
7. Describe the character's temperament. Is he even-tempered or does he have mood swings? Cheerful or melancholy? Laid-back or driven? Very very VERY mood swingy. From grinning and laughing to RAAAAAAAAGE. He's pretty cheerful and relaxed seeming, but he worries a lot and bottles up a lot of darkness until it EXPLODES. Which it does. Inevitably.
8. How does he respond to new people or situations? Is he suspicious, relaxed, timid, enthusiastic? SUPER enthusiastic like a puppy. New people = new friends. New friends = OMG YAY!
9. Is he more likely to act, or to react? Act.
10. Which is his default: fight or flight? Fight. Ace can't bring himself to run away.... from anything... and it's his downfall... literally D:
11. Describe the character's sense of humor. Does he appreciate jokes? Puns? Gallows humor? Bathroom humor? Pranks? He loves almost EVERYTHING. Jokes and pranks are best. He does NOT appreciate
12. Does the character have any diagnosable mental disorders? If yes, how does he deal with them? *COUGH* Narcolepsy is kind of that. He also goes into a lot rage and repression. To deal with the narcolepsy he doesn't eat soup without someone he trusts nearby to pull him out of it, and mostly he treats it like a joke.
13. What moments in this character's life have defined him as a person? MASSIVE MASSIVE SPOILERS ABOUND: Being born. No really >>. His existence was hunted by marines who were ready to kill babies and pregnant women just on the PLAUSIBILITY that they had anything to do with Gol D. Roger. His Mom had to hold Ace in her womb for 20 months so that he wouldn't be discovered. (His Mom was a D and therefore capable of impossible things.) Since then, beating up a bunch of gang kids when he was little, meeting Luffy, trying to kill Luffy (oh god so scary as a kid), having Luffy get caught/kidnapped and tortured for information and then rescuing Luffy and adopting him as a brother, Sabo being forced to return to the city, Sabo dying, setting out to be a Spade Pirate, meeting Shanks, being offered (and turning down) a shichibukai position, meeting and fighting Jinbei for 5 days solid and then fighting Whitebeard and being told to join Whitebeard, attempting to kill Whitebeard over a hundred times and failing, being befriended by Marco and Thatch, officially joining the Whitebeard crew and getting the tattoo, becoming 2nd division commander, Thatch's murder, chasing Blackbeard against Whitebeard & crew orders, LOSING to Blackbeard, getting turned over to the World Government, being in Impel Down (prison), and getting attempted to be rescued by everyone he loved (even though he felt he didn't deserve it). Also, even his own death.
14. What does he fear? Luffy dying or not making it to captain, and his friends dying or being hurt and not being able to protect them.
15. What are his hopes or aspirations? To be loved.
16. What is something he doesn't want anyone to find out about him? He's the son of Gol D. Roger -- the first pirate king.
Relationships
1. Describe this character's relationship with his parents. Whitebeard he took as his adopted father and loves him more than anyone except arguably Luffy. He would and DID die for Whitebeard, or even just Whitebeard's honor. Whitebeard's name and people respecting it means almost EVERYTHING to Ace.
2. Does the character have any siblings? What is/was their relationship like? Luffy and Sabo. They were all very close. Sabo used to be the only buffer between the wild rage and angst that was Ace and all the rest of the world; and vice versa. When he died, Ace took on being Luffy's only big brother and watched after him very VERY protectively, refusing to let anyone hurt Luffy even including Garp. Even as adults, he bragged about Luffy constantly (all of Ace's crew were able to recognize Luffy from Ace's stories) and he loves him to pieces. Luffy is still the person Ace most longs for even when they have separate goals and dreams. In prison when Ace was sure he was going to be executed he begged Jinbei to look after Luffy and told him the only thing that reassured him was that Luffy had such a strong & smart crew looking after him.
3. Are there other blood relatives to whom he is close? Are there ones he can't stand? Monkey D. Garp was the vice admiral looking after Portgas D. Rouge (Ace's Mom) and Ace to protect them from the World Government. He tried to train Luffy and Ace to be strong marines and beat the pirate out of them. For all of Ace's rage and wild side he DOES have a lot of respect for Garp and loves him deeply. He refuses to acknowledge Gold Roger as being his father and HATES him with a flaming passion. He'll fly into a rage when forced to acknowledge it and he thinks anyone who finds out will abandon him. He doesn't think this QUITE as much in BP because he was shown in Marineford that all of the Whitebeard crew and allies didn't care and in BP that Smoker didn't feel that was a good reason to kill Ace, and hasn't abandoned him for it. He feels he owes Portgas D. Rouge a great debt for giving birth to him and protecting him in spite of everything (even though she died in childbirth) and he actually carries a lot of barely repressed guilt about it. -- It's also why he is the way he is with Eva. He desperately wants to get close, but he's terrified of intruding on the family unit that already exists there and he's scared that she'll disappear like his own Mom BECAUSE of Ace himself in some weird twisted way. (He has SERIOUS parental issues.)
4. Are there other, unrelated people whom he considers part of his family? What are his relationships with them? Whitebeard is his father. Completely acknowledged as such and refuses to say otherwise no matter what. He loves his Pops COMPLETELY (almost as much as Luffy.) Dadan was his foster Mom -- a mountain bandit that Garp blackmailed into taking care of Ace and Luffy. While she and Ace weren't on amazing terms (since he was a wild bundle of RAGE) they were pretty cordial and she was actually a LOT like his Mama!Tiger! and when he died he said he really missed her and found it kind of funny given everything. She also flew into a rage that Garp had to go calm down.
5. Who is/was the character's best friend? How did they meet? Sabo was Ace's first and best friend. How they met isn't completely certain, but Sabo ran away from a rich upper-class life where he was a caged bird to live with the Mountain Trash in Grey Terminal. He and Ace were basically insane little hooligans and they planned to save up cash they mugged and buy a ship to be pirates. Luffy was another best friend (see defining moments above) and then eventually so were Marco, Thatch, Jozu, Vista, Trap-chan (Izou), the Spade pirates, and Oars Jr.
6. Does he have other close friends? A fuckton of Whitebeard pirates and allies. Ace was VERY well-liked by the time his execution came around.
7. Does he make friends easily, or does he have trouble getting along with people? Despite his rage; he keeps a good lid on it (now, after a LOT of years) and makes friends VERY easily, in plenty, and all over the place.
8. Which does he consider more important: family or friends? Tentatively I'll say friends, but it needs to be noted that for Ace, they are often one and the same.
9. Is the character single, married, divorced, widowed? Has he been married more than once? Single. Never been married. How many exes in canon is debatable.
10. Is he currently in a romantic relationship with someone other than a spouse? In BP he's dating Smoker.
11. Who was his first crush? Who is his latest? HEADCANON ONLY just because I kept it around and it stuck: a princess when he was 16. She was just dating a pirate to make her father mad and when she was going to be disowned, instantly dumped Ace.
12. What does he look for in a romantic partner? ... Basically Smoker actually. His rebellious streak and desire to be friends with everyone, leads him to want to date a marine that doesn't have a problem with the Gold Roger thing and follows their OWN justice much the way Garp did. He likes them quite a bit older than himself. He has a fire catnip addiction to smokers. He likes light hair and people with thin, no, or very interesting eyebrows. He wants someone who will get him food at odd hours. He needs someone at least his equal in strength, but too much stronger he'd feel inferior and constantly try to fight them and get his ass kicked and kinda resent it, too much weaker and he'd go crazy trying to protect them and not completely respect them as much. Someone who challenges him intellectually (surprisingly enough), and someone who's more of an introvert and almost a hermit and therefore needs a party lively person to drag them out to have fun. He also wants someone he can just go fucking crazy on when he's having a meltdown, and either violently/fire/or whatever. He does best with someone fire resistant or better yet -- WANTS the fire, because when he's out of control emotionally, he can't control the logia either. (It mentions this with making the Straw-Hat for Oars Jr. he kept accidentally burning it and had a really rough time.) He needs someone who will come find him and if necessary kick his ass or just pick up his drunk ass and clean up after the messes he ends up leaving behind. And he needs someone who's pretty damn "Who gives a fuck" about wanting to make EVERYONE happy as that is what causes most of Ace's meltdowns.
13. Does the character have children? Grandchildren? If yes, how does he relate to them? If no, does he want any? No, and not really. In CN/AU he has Anne and Collie and adores them to pieces, but for the most part he's 20, and it doesn't cross his mind because he dies young and always expected he would. Likewise, he NEVER wants to be anything like Rogers and thus wouldn't want to have kids only to abandon them and burden them with being his offspring. As such he can be a little prone to "oaklsjdalksjd omfg I have kids what?!?!" freak-outs should such a thing happen, but if he did he'd be very responsible... as much as possible.
14. Does he have any rivals or enemies? Blackbeard aka Marshall D. Teach. He hates him for killing Thatch. Ace hunted him down to try to kill him... and failed. Teach turned Ace over to the marines so he could be a shichibukai and Teach is why Ace was Impel Down and scheduled to be executed. Then Teach killed Whitebeard (which Ace only knows about through Smoker) so Ace fucking HATES him. Even more.
15. What is the character's sexual orientation? Where does he fall on the Kinsey scale? Directly middle. Also we joke that Ace is pansexual. He would seriously fuck a non-human without thinking anything weird about it.
16. How does he feel about sex? How important is it to him? Very, but he doesn't think about it. It just sort of HAPPENS to him. And he's just... very. Very. Easy. >> VERY.
17. What are his turn-ons? Turn-offs? Weird bedroom habits? God. Everything. Fire, cigars, cigarettes, fighting, jealousy, if there's a weird kink Ace probably has a craving to explore it. Mine no longer enjoys being tied up or handcuffed (he was never big on it) and he secretly just hates the dark period so if he has sex in the dark he's more like to try to set lights and fight it off. He also has the WEIRDEST (imo) kink of enjoying be choked. :| His throat and neck are insanely sensitive and he just gets off on it. alkdsjalkdjadklj This is another reason he likes Smoker so much. Because they have issssssuuuuues.
Beliefs
1. Do you know your character's astrological (zodiac of choice) sign? How well does he fit type? Capricorn and Chinese Zodiac is inapplicable. It completely DOES NOT fit since Capricorns are supposed to be stable. Emotionally and uh... period. Which... Ace is not. Ever. At all.
2. Is this character religious, spiritual, both, or neither? How important are these elements in his life? Not at all. He was pretty atheist and just sort of getting used to the idea that there is an afterlife and what it is.
3. Does this character have a personal code of morals or ethics? If so, how did that begin? What would it take to compromise it? Yes, it's partially from Garp, and then his own innately INTENSE loyalty which he values most of all. He doesn't compromise it.... period. He doesn't back down and he insisted on hunting Blackbeard because of it and he felt responsible for make sure Teach died because he insulted Whitebeard and killed Thatch and Blackbeard was originally in Ace's division. Ace isn't a big fan of killing people in cold blood or at all, but he will if they touch his family/crew/etc.
4. How does he regard beliefs that differ from his? Is he tolerant, intolerant, curious, indifferent? Super tolerant edging on pretty curious. He loves new things and new ideas and he he usually just wants to hear about them.
5. What prejudices does he hold? Are they irrational or does he have a good reason for them? Hm. None. He knows not all marines are bad (Garp, Bogart, Smoker), he knows not all pirates are bad (himself, Luffy, Shanks, Whitebeard) or good (90% of pirates, Bluejam etc.) He likes Jinbei like fuck (bffs!! and prison buddies \o/) but he knows not all fishmen are like Jinbei. His only real prejudices would be in automatically thinking anyone in Luffy's crew is good (after he saw/met them in Alabasta) and that a friend of a friend is worthy of being a friend of his.
Daily Life
1. What is the character's financial situation? Is he rich, poor, comfortable, in debt? Gah. So. Very. Poor. He doesn't take a Whitebeard salary or work to get money so his clothes are almost EXCLUSIVELY gifts from other people and he has to do eat'n'runs because they're fun and he's broke permanently.
2. What is his social status? Has this changed over time, and if so, how has the change affected him? Pirate~ And son of Gol D. Roger = SCUM :| but he deals.
3. Where does he live? House, apartment, trailer? Is his home his castle or just a place to crash? What condition is it in? Does he share it with others? A ship usually and he shares a room with Smoker in BP. He keeps it pretty organized because Smoker is neat and Ace doesn't want to piss him off over it and he's not really messy to begin with.
4. Besides the basic necessities, what does he spend his money on? Friends... imaginably. If he had money.
5. What does he do for a living? Is he good at it? Does he enjoy it, or would he rather be doing something else? PIRATE. >:D And he loves it. But he never really felt he had much choice to do anything else because despite Garp's insistence, the World Government would probably kill Ace even as a marine if they found out he was related to Gold Roger, and he felt the deep need to be free and wild in his blood~
6. What are his interests or hobbies? How does he spend his free time? FIRE. Food, surfing/sailing/skiff, fighting, eat'n'runs, drinking, mostly just hanging out with his friends.
7. What are his eating habits? Does he skip meals, eat out, drink alcohol, avoid certain foods? God. Ace is a D. Which means he eats HEAVILY, hardcore, in plenty and alskdjaldkj just so very much. SO VERY MUCH. Like 50 dishes for a meal. Seriously. His narcolepsy is also the worst during eating. Like whoa. He mooches off random people (and makes friends from it \o/) and he does drink alcohol. Mine prefers rum.
