Umm well I did get a badge saying I wrote like JRR Tolkien, which is nice but I couldn't figure how to get it to come up on LJ [I've never understood the techno mumbo jumbo associated with these kind of things] so you'll just have to take my word for it unless this link brings it up! Well, I've just learned that Tolkien writes like...... Charles Dickens. LOL Since I can't write fiction to save my life I tried an experiment: I copied a descriptive paragraph from FOTR, A Knife in the Dark, p. 185, 2002 into the thingy, just changing "hobbits" and "they" for "we", and "Bree" for Shrewsbury, and it got the Dickens badge. *g*

You're very welcome to hog my LJ all you want! I did try to copy and paste that code thing but all I got was the code and no badge. These sorts of thingys really don't perform for me!

Thank you and I'm not surprised you got JRRT too! I tried just copying and pasting and all I got was the actual code. I do wonder if this laptop is up to the job or whether it's just me!

Thank you, I admit it took several tries! It was my story about Gilraen hearing her husband was dead that gave me my desrired result!

Have you got your LJ postings set to HMTL?. When you post there is a box in the far right which you can select for HMTL or text.Code only works when set to HMTL.

Thanks for the tip. I rather thought that was the case so tried both rich text and HMTL and neither worked! I think I need to practise!
