Now baby, just spit me out!

It's been a weird summer, art-wise.

I spent about two and a half months at the beginning of the summer not being able to draw anything because work was kicking my ass so much, I had no energy to do anything creative by the time I got home. And all the extra time I had was spent hanging out with people and visiting home.
Then I had a rush of creative, frustrated fury one night and sketched out a crap ton of images for my comic, Dualité, and the next few weeks, was back to being tired. But those sketches were still burning a hole in the back of my head, so the latter half of July and the rest of August has been chock full of drawings again. Most of them are for a HUUUUUUUUUGE art dump for Dualité that I am determined to post this week. They're almost done, and I even finally completed the surprisingly difficult task of naming my first main character. I spend an awful lot of time deliberating on names in general, and this particular self-debate has been going on for at least three years. Maybe four.

Add to that the fact that this main character is the male half, and spent most of his creation looking like a Don Bluth knockoff. But I've finally developed a more unique look for him that just works, it works so well, and the name even fits him like I didn't chose it myself. He just sprang into being this week like a good little soldier. :D

Actually, this whole project has been coming together with an almost frightening ease - everything has just fallen into place, every bit of research and plotwork has randomly tied itself together. Considering that this project is my baby, I couldn't be happier with how it's turning out - it'll make it that much easier when I finally start drawing the thing out.

Also, I seem to have some sort of weird name fetish, especially for 19th century names.
Check out this list of my major cast characters so far:
Jobe Seiler (a.k.a. Antony Seiler)
Josephine Frances Craddock (a.k.a. Phinney)
Romana Lucienne Gallo (a.k.a. Romy)
Marcus Arlo Frotscher (a.k.a. Arlo)
Eliakim Spektor (a.k.a. Elijah, Eli)
Gennaro Landi
Nan Jacobi (a.k.a. Madame Jacobi)
Mercy Jacobi
Brit Jacobi

That's a metric crap ton of weird names. I guess I just really love culturally relevant names and old-fashioned names. I may look at some of these later and decide that they're too ridiculous, but I hope not. I love names!

And now, a meme from the_flowergirl!

Also, I'm assuming that 'OMFGKORRA!" is not in the original meme, but I am including it anyway. Because EXCITEMENT.

HERE ARE THE RULES:
1. Reply to this post with "OMFGKORRA!", and I will pick five of your icons.
2. Make a post (including the meme info) and talk about the icons I chose.
3. Other people can then comment to you and make their own posts.
4. This will create a never-ending cycle of icon glee.

She chose:
1.)

I recently bought the wonderful 1995 Firthalicious BBC version of Pride and Prejudice (don't try to sell me that Keira version) on DVD. Considering I already have it on VHS, you can imagine how much girlish love I have for this series. Colin Firth on a horse is a marvelous enough image - add to it that iconic commercial phrase and you got a winner.

2.)

I love animated loop icons, and well, someone made a bunch of awesome Simpsons-y ones. I have a lot of nostalgic fondess for The Simpsons because it was one of those awesome shows that my older brother and all his friends were always watching that I wasn't allowed to, but did anyway. And you know what? Twenty-something years later, it's still funny.

3.)

I've had this icon for as long as I can remember. Time cannot diminish the plucky cuteness of the original Land Before Time's Ducky. Dat face.

4.)

I figured it was about time that I make a few usable LJ icons for myself of my own art. On occasion, I've been known to draw fairly pretty things, and with my comic in production, why not promote it with finished art from the thing? This is Romana and Elijah, otherwise known as Romy and Eli (sounds like an indie rom-com, right?) dancing and being flirty as they were in the early stages of their odd relationship. Nowadays? Not so much.  I also just wanted an excuse to screencap part of one of Romy's many fabulous large hats. Oh Edwardian Era, I do love you so.

5.)

Again, more BBC P&P wonderfulness. I hated the Bingley sisters but I loved hating them.

Also, WHAT. THE HELL. IS WITH. THIS NEW LJ FORMATTING. Nothing works correctly and every time I try and fix something, it moves words and paragraphs around and chunks everything together and gets rid of my LJ cuts.

why do websites feel the need to chaaaannnggggeee can't they just conform to the whims of habitual creatures like meeeee

project: dualité, characters, don't go changing', icons, memes
