There's a pharmacy near work where they have some electronic scales where you get a printout of your weight. I made the mistake of going there this Friday and it said 95 kg. There, in writing. I nearly fainted. I'll try to reign in my eating because I still have the rest of November, December and January to go before I give birth. I think I need to ( Read more... )

hm.... shame about Sigurd - it's a nice-sounding name! And Ragnar! Heee! One of my friends (a New Zealander, no less) has named his son Ragnar! So, it's not that old-people's name any more! (and I must say, little Ragnar is adorable! His sister also has an old-fashioned name; she's called Tova - which is old Irish, apparently!)

LOL about K's expectations! But I don't see why not! :)

I need to lose weight as well, before I go home for Christmas but so far it's not happening.... It's so difficult!

I hope your results of the glucose test will be fine - let us know how that went!!

Ragnar is old-fashioned in Norway. I have heard of it used in the US or other places but ultimately it matters what the perception of the name is in Norway too. Imagine if someone decides to go for a Greek name with zero knowledge of any connotation for those names or what they actually sound like and then says "Oh, decided, I am naming the kid Vrasidas or Thrassyvoulos or Theofrastos or other pretty old-person sounding names.

I knew a Greek-American Thrassyvoulos. He was very handsome and went by Thrass.

My brother likes Ragnar too :( We'll push for it, you never know, it might be one of those names that are getting a revival.

How about Oddbjørn :p Actually that was supposed to be my name until I turned up...

Ægir is also a famous microbrewery now, so perhaps not? (Although that might sway the boyfriend?)

Egil? Klara? Sigurd, working class? Nah! There are at least 10 of them in school, so I disagree. the other poncy boys in school are called Matthias, Tobias, Martin, Erik, Ørjan, Marius, Magnus, Sondre(this one is popular!), Sindre, Christoffer.... (I'm looking though the chat window to see who's online now:)

A microbrewery? Crap, noooo. Might as well name the kid Mythos!!!

Egil is kinda nice, I'll suggest it. I'm evil and try to push for names I can actually pronounce more or less.

Christian names are out because we are making a statement of our atheism so Tobias, Martin, Marius and Christoffer are out on that alone.

Erik and Magnus have been used in the family and though they are nice we don't want to repeat ourselves.

Not sure what to think of Ørjan and pretty sure I can't pronounce it or that it would end up sounding uncomfortably close to greek for "orgy" and Sondre and Sindre sound kinda female to my untrained Greek ear.

I'm afraid that Odd and any combination thereof is out because we don't want English speakers to be makiing fun of him... Not that people would make fun of you if you had been a boy and you were Oddbjørn now. Erm... I think I'll shut up. :D

Oh, no, Ægir has *much* better beer than Mythos!
Egil also exists in the versjon Eigil by the way. Also I like Brage(although I may sound like brag if he's to go to MIT) or Brede. How about Vegard? Vestein? Vemund? Audun?
By the way, here is the top list of Norwegian names these last hundred years... In case you are bored!
