What in the world is a Japanese fishing float?

They're glass balls that the Japanese attached to the sides of their fishing nets to keep the nets afloat. They come in various sizes and colors, and they wash up on the beaches in certain parts of the world and have become collectible.

My husband found one on the beach on Alaska's Yakutat Peninsula when he was there in the 80s doing field work towards his master's degree, and we have had it as a keepsake all these years. A few weeks ago, the Spawn accidentally broke it. During one of the numerous scolding sessions that followed, I said, "How can we ever replace it?" and he said, in his smart-ass "E-Bay?" and I thought, "Hmmm." Sure enough, EBay has dozens of them! I had never bought anything on E-Bay before, so it was a whole learning experience, but I finally got one!

Oh wow! That spells "seventies" all over for me; I used to have three of those balls in different colours from small to big in a net with cork between them hanging in my bedroom!!!
But I had no idea of their origin; I just attributed them to the stylists of that era. lol

Being smart-ass sure paid off. heh
*raises thumb*

Kids will break all kinds of stuff, as long as they don't break your heart you'll be fine. ;)

I don't understand this "twitter" newfangled thingy. Are these entries you received, or entries you wrote?

Is it just another one of those addictive things that interfere with everyday living, you know, like email, cell phones, text messages, etc?

These are all entries I sent. It's sort of like IM in that you send out little one line messages in real time. You have a "handle" and you can direct those messages at specific other people by putting the "at sign" in front of their name. It's kind of like the one-line "what are you doing now" box in Facebook, except you send them all day long.

And to answer your question, yes, it's just another one of those addictive time-wasters.
