I was invited to sub in as a player in a Bunco game tomorrow! It's a group of 12 suburban stay-at-home moms, and I am going to try hard to fit in and not talk all intellektchul and not be overwhelmed by my viciously competitive streak. There's a reason I never get invited to these things, and I'm not going to blow it. I hope there's alcohol ( Read more... )

The difference in the sizes between Buddy and Cindy never fails to astound me when I see the two of them wrapped up together.

They're at opposite ends of the scale, because Buddy's a big breed (Maine Coon) and Cindy's a wee breed (Burmese). Buddy's actually small for his breed; we think he may be only half Coon. Good thing, because he's big enough!

Cindy looks murderous in this picture! Is she about to throttle Buddy? ;)

Is the Girl's birthday within the next few months? How about saving those extra two items for then?

I got my roommate's brother a couple of Young Readers anthologies of classics. Like Robinson Crusoe, Sherlock Holmes, Swiss Family Robinson, Red Badge of Courage, etc. Maybe The Spawn would like that.

I think he'd like that. He's interested in Sherlock Holmes now because we've been watching Star Trek TNG and Data is a big fan of Holmes. Good idea - thanks!

Buddy's like a big old rug and Cindy's like a chinchilla. Their fur's lovely!

Those two cats need to go to caturday!
Raphael loves Artemis Fowl.

though of course he prefers the audiobooks, and loves the irish accent.
(Another of his favourite audiobooks are the series of short stories by David Sedaris, but somehow I don't see you getting them for Henry! They are funny and easy to read, but the content is a little...gay...)

Good idea on the Artemis Fowl! My daughter has the first three, and I could just transfer them over to him. Cheap and effective.

I do play my kids the occasional David Sedaris bit when he appears on This American Life! I think he's brilliant. He lives in France now, doesn't he?

Sadly he's in the Normandy area, so a long way from here. :(
Another thought, Alex Rider, Raph enjoyed that series, or....have you thought of Manga? Raph has really got into the Bleach series, and they are very popular?

Henry has all the Alex Ryders - we both love them!!

Manga... not enough words. I know he'd enjoy them, but I want him reading words.
