Thanks, everyone, for your kind and thoughtful responses to yesterday's post on my Jewish dilemma. I think I am moving towards changing congregations. I won't do it before the end of the school year, though, as I want The Spawn to finish out his year with his current class. I may go back to Beth Ami later, when the kids have grown, but I have come ( Read more... )

I somehow missed the book recommendation post, I may be too late, but has The Girl read the Alanna books by Tamora Pierce?

Alanna: The First Adventure (Song of the Lioness, Book 1)
In the Hand of the Goddess (Song of the Lioness, Book 2)
The Woman Who Rides Like a Man (Song of the Lioness, Book 3)
Lioness Rampant (Song of the Lioness 4)

My eight-year-old loooooves that series, and has pretty much memorized the first book. She was writing fanfic there for a while.

It looks like Buddy's absorbing Deep Knowledge from the notebook through his body.... nah, guess not. :)

I read somewhere that cats read through their stomachs, and that is why they insist on lying down on your newspaper, etc.

So that explains it.

Cat farts...heh. When we first got Bluebelle (pictured) she farted whenever we picked her up. That lasted about three months, so I guess she outgrew it.

And boy did she outgrow. This pic was taken not too long after we got her (oh, my, almost 5 years ago!) She definitely has Maine Coon in her, based on her fur and her size. She is overweight (16½ pounds!), but still very spry; she routinely leaps from the cat tree to the bed, about 3 feet.

We've put her on "light" food but it doesn't do anything at all...

Come to that, you know you love your small boy child when he lets out... etc. I had a lovely cuddly afternoon yesterday - misjudged a naptime and he fell asleep on me again, so I just sat there enjoying him all floppy on my lap. Instead of trying to wake him so he'd go to bed at a decent time. It was gone 9 by the time I came downstairs that evening...

Buddy's such a delightful boy! P is scared of him, BTW - I just showed him the photo and he went 'woah!'. We think Buddy may be half Maine Coon, half Mountain Lion!

Believe me, however scared P is of Buddy, it doesn't compare to how scared Buddy is of him! He's the original scaredy cat, and has been known to hide under the bed for an hour after just hearing the phone ring.
