Figure skating championships in Sweden are THIS week?!

Why didn't anyone tell me the World Figure Skating Championships are this week? There have been no reports whatsoever in the press here even though we have a Belgian skater participating. Why do I even rely on main stream press for news coverage ( Read more... )

Sunday 23/3 14.00 Sporza Kunstschaatsen on Canvas (Gala)

That one can probably only be programmed because there's no Ronde van Vlaanderen on Easter day this year. Cyclists have it so much harder than ice skaters, don't they? ;-)

Easter Sunday is spent with my parents. I figure my dad prefers cyclists/car races/whatever over ice skating, and he is in charge of the remote on Sunday afternoons.

The other days I might even watch.

Ack Easter! Completely forgot about that.

If you decide to tune in, watch out for the Suisse guy, Stephane Lambiel, he is sex on ice personified and his pirouettes are just a thing of beauty.

I usually prefer to watch the gala over the actual competition, the skaters are much more relaxed and their routine is usually something fun.

I prefer the gala too: with the heavy weight of competition lifted from their shoulders the skaters just enjoy themselves on the ice.

Sex on ice? Sounds as implausible as sexiness in a documentary on Chinese music, doesn't it? ;-)

Ah, I saw Daan's documentary too. I believe Daan is sexy anywhere, put him on stage at Marktrock - sexy. Put him together with a bunch of Chinese musicians - sexy. Hell, put him in the middle of a toxic waste dump on a hot day - still sexy.

I thought it was a good documentary and it sort of confirmed what I already knew about Chinese youth culture. In 2000 I spent a month teaching English to first year university students in Wuhan. These students don't know the meaning of the world REBEL. They are just like the yuppies of the 80'ties. Maybe even worse, because they claim they aren't doing it for money but for the glory of China. Apparently things haven't changed much in the last 8 years.
