I started a new band! Well it's not a new band, it's a continuation of the band I started this summer. It's just that this summer it was me programming cave[wo]man drums in Garageband and then trying to sound like Slayer into a laptop microphone, and now it's me and my friend Crissy (from Alabaster Choad!) playing actual instruments at the same time.
I've been meaning to have a band with Crissy since a couple years ago when I got convinced to go to the afterparty for, like, Trans People Movies Day at Frameline, or something. I think mostly I went because it was sponsored by some big deal booze company and I was like, yes, it is worth it to me to pay seven dollars for a two-way BART ride to spend a couple hours in the company of a bunch of rich film enthusiasts drinking hell of free drinks. And I did drink hell of free drinks. There were also lots of, like, hors d'ouevres, like tiny burgers and probably salmon things or meatballs or something. I don't remember exactly, I just remember being totally stoked on all the free stuff. But! The bonus prize was stumbling into some people I half knew, lounging around upstairs while... I want to say while Tom Petty played? I mean Tom Petty probably did not play this thing. Somebody did though. Somebody who was a big deal. I was all full of free drinks and tiny burgers, though, so the night got a little blurry. I do remember seeing Shawna from the Lipstick Conspiracy there, which was funny 'cause I'd been planning to poach her from that band to join Angela Chase, but I was too drunk to make it happen.
This is not a parable about the perils of alcohol and why I went straightedge. This is the story of how I met Crissy.
The only thing is, I was kinda drunk, so mostly what I remember is that I saw a kinda punky crusty looking person after navigating a huge fancy bar full of people who looked neither punk nor crusty, got stoked, and made friends with her. She talked about the Choad and I don't know what I talked about. Probably nothing, or myself. Point is, that was when I was like, I want to start a damn band with you.
