Ah, but the platypus lays eggs. I don't imagine they have belly buttons anymore than a chicken would. Then again, an egg yolk serves the same purpose as a placenta, and the white : amniotic sac. Let's say that all egg-layers also have belly buttons! Except fish. Fish have a straight up weird reproductive process.

Wikipedia says: "all placental mammals have a navel."

I'm pretty sure the belly button is just where the umbilical cord was attached, and doesn't have anything to do with a knot being tied. :)

Oh, and "all navels are essentially scars." Which hadn't really occurred to me before... hm.
