I don't know what your views on the bible are or if you prefer the spirituality only aspect of religion/belief in god, but I was reading a book and it had this quote. I thought it was interesting considering vegan views, and all.

"And God said unto them,
Be fruitful, and multipy, and replenish the earth,
and subdue it: and have dominion
over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air,
and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth"
Genesis 1:28

It was intended as more of a stewardship than anything. Also, I know of very few kings who ate his people.
