Nothing Nice.

My brother is like Harrison Bergeron now. His vision is bad; His sight is extremely poor in one eye. The only way to correct this is by forcing that eye to work more, to compensate however eyes do. He has been given a special prescription that will worsen his vision in his good eye, and drops to do the same ( Read more... )

It took me a long time to get my thoughts on alcohol straight, as my friends were split fairly evenly into "no thanks" and "as much as possible!!!" camps for a long time.

My thoughts now: there are a couple different kinds of drinking. Drinking for the sake of getting very drunk isn't fun, and I really don't understand the point. Same with drinking stuff that tastes awful and burns your throat on the way down. I just kinda hate feeling drunk in general, it's NOT a good feeling. (Make a list of all the synonyms you can think of for "drunk" -- hammered, smashed, wasted etc. -- and you'll notice that none of them are really very positive words.) But some alcohol is actually tasty and interesting to drink, and the sort of fun silliness that results from a drink or two isn't a bad thing at all. It really is all about moderation.

here is my opinion on why war and conflict work, nicely summed up my orson welles:

Don't be so gloomy. After all it's not that awful. Like the fella says, in Italy for 30 years under the Borgias they had warfare, terror, murder, and bloodshed, but they produced Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, and the Renaissance. In Switzerland they had brotherly love - they had 500 years of democracy and peace, and what did that produce? The cuckoo clock. So long Holly.

As much as I am an optimist, and say i believe in Peace on earth and other christmas carol ideals, the truth is that people thrive on conflict. Without it there is no progress just like what ^that guy said with the cuckoo clocks.

As for thanksgiving you are welcome at my house, but i am leaving tomorrow around 4 and not coming back until saturday morning. And there may be some forced contra dancing in Massachusetts. Give me a call if you wanna come.
