do you have any colleges in mind? i know oberlin's creative writing department is completely separate from the english/comp lit departments, so if that kind of division appeals to you, you might want to check out similar programs at other liberal-artsy-type places.
I could never get into that school, and if I could, I would be putting myself into debt for years and years. To compare: My current [public] school's tuition is less than three thousand dollars, most of which is covered by a couple of scholarships.

University English is a Bad Thing. You need practice, most of all. Creative Writing is a craft as much as an art. This is a good decision.
And I think those thoughts on living are true, too. When you go outside and give your brain time to breathe, you don't see the bad. You're not ignorant, but rocket attacks, suicide bombers, and the credit crunch don't hit you in the head in quite the same way. Life is good, it's all good, and one of the great pleasures in life is discovering that.
