Congrats on the acceptances :-) You'll turn it around, I bet.
Re: City in Harlem, I used to live right around there. It's a nice neighborhood, especially if you keep a little west of campus (can't vouch for east, but I don't know where the dorms would be). Hunter's a great option as well. All good stuff.
I know online opinions are worth far less than the regular 2 cents, but these are my thoughts, if you want 'em: Go to the college you want to go to. Go into debt if you need to, provided you've got a half-credible game plan to get back out later. Either way, do yourself a favor and use the shit out of the opportunities you get there. It'll keep you focused, at least, and you'll avoid the soul-draining academic inertia of the regular college routine. And that helps.
Thank you, but. It was a bureaucratic error that got me accepted to those schools. I will have to go to community college after all. Things are on the up and up, but not up, up and away. Not quite yet.
i hope i didn't just freak you out by IMing you. I saw your name on the SA aim thread, and was like, whoaaaa that's weird I just was reading that guy's journal!
