IRENE CAESAR, PH.D., IS NOMINATED FOR THE LOMONOSOVART PRIZE BY MOSCOW UNIVERSITY, OCTOBER 2012
Irene Caesar, Ph.D., was nominated for the LomonosovArt Prize for the intellectual achievements in art by the Moscow University -- for her portrait of Arthur Danto, the most celebrated Anglo-American critic, "Arthur Danto contributes to the Damien Hirst's Spot Paintings". The portrait is the absurdist role game, documented by photography, in which the greatest contemporary Anglo-American philosopher and art critic Arthur Danto is throwing colored plastic eggs to the air helping Damien Hirst with making "spots". The game was played in Danto's apartment in 2010. The artwork is now in the collection of the Moscow Museum of Modern Art, in the collection of the Volgograd Museum of Art, personal collection of Arthur Danto, and in the collection of Kolodzei Art Foundation. The artwork was exhibited in Irene Caesar's solo show "Anthropretation" at the Harriman Institute of the Columbia University in September-October, 2012 in New York, in her solo show "Artworld: Conceptual history of Arthur Danto in the absurdist role games of Irene Caesar" as Moscow University's special exhibition project in April 2012 at the Moscow's Center of Photography; and in the group show "ONTIME" of the nominees for the LomonosovArt Prize for the Intellectual Achievements in Art by the Moscow University at the LomArt Art Gallery of the Moscow University, as a part of the Science Festival of the Moscow University, in October 2012. Arthur Danto has written an essay about this work "Trickster's Commentary" published with this arthwork in the art magazine "Art Dialogue", the official art magazine of the Museum of Modern Art, Moscow, in April 2012. Showing this artwork in 2012 was Irene Caesar's response to Damien Hirst's 2012 global exhibition of his Spot Paintings.
