As many of you know, I have a strange and comical liking for the cinematic greatness of Steven Seagal. In my last update, he had just come out with a movie in South Korea named Clemetine and he played a minor role as a villain, the first time he has ever played “the bad guy” on screen. I have still yet to see anything more than small previews.
I recently learned he has released another stunning, visual, martial arts power house called
Out of reach. I have yet to see it though. My schedule has not afforded me the opportunity to rent it, however I think I will within the next week or two.
Even more surprising and possibly scary, I have learned that Seagal has also created a new CD; one song is a duet with him and Stevie Wonder! This is not a joke, but a reality...sometime truth is stranger than fiction. The album is called Songs from the Crystal Cave. Released May 18, 2004 only in France, the CD has gotten mixed reviews.
Nonsoloblues.com says:
"Songs From The Crystal Cave", Steven Seagal’s much-awaited first album, has been released exclusively in France on May 18th, 2004..
It has immediately entered the charts on its week of release. The first single from the album, "Girl it’s alright" is currently N°1 of the CLUBS SLOWS CHARTS for the second week in a row !
The album has largely been recorded in the United States, with the collaboration of former Wailers, stars from Jamaican music (Tony rebel, lady Saw, Lt Stichie,…), as well as the exceptional participation of Stevie Wonder. It is a perfect mixture between Steven Seagal’s blues roots and love for world music (reggae, Indian music,…).
It continues, It took the artist about 5 years to complete "Songs from the Crystal Cave". Steven Seagal being a perfectionist, some of the tracks have been produced by Ric Wake (Shakira, Céline Dion). Jamaican DJ’s Lt. Stitchie, Tony Rebel and Lady Saw (who has turned No Doubt’s « Underneath it all » into a worldwide hit) reinforce the album’s power with their ragga-dancehall dynamic.
It can be ordered through
Amazon.fr. On the listing it has 5 snippets of the album.
Interestingly enough, this is not Seagal’s first foray into the musical spotlight. On the Marked for Death soundtrack, he performed the movie theme song with Jimmy Cliff. Of all the titles, the song was called "
John Crow." I assure you I was a fan before I found this out; its just a bonus. Anyway, for those who would like to hear a sample, this is a link to a Real Audio clip of his song
Girl It's Alright.
