I was tempted to read that, but concerned it would piss me off in a feminist kind of way.. would it?

It could. It certainly is written in a world where most women have little to no control of their life/circumstances and are shifted about like pawns.

So on one hand that part is very maddening, but the flip side is to remember how far we've come. I think I'll pick up some of the memoirs about actual Geisha's. One of the Geisha's that the author interviewed before writing this, came out with her own book as well.
