Now, I don't think there's anyone local on my f-list any more at all any more, but I said I'd do my damnedest to get Buddy's story out to hopefully find him a home, so that includes posting to LJ

Hi, followed you over here from cat_lovers because your user picture made me cry. I was wondering where the text comes from? If it's part of a poem I'd love to read the rest of it. Thank you. :)
If I'd lived closer I'd love to adopt Buddy. He's gorgeous!
Good call! It is from a poem. The original is attributed to Mary Frye in 1932. It reads:
Do not stand at my grave and weep I am not there; I do not sleep. I am a thousand winds that blow, I am the diamond glints on snow, I am the sun on ripened grain, I am the gentle autumn rain. When you awaken in the morning's hush I am the swift uplifting rush Of quiet birds in circled flight. I am the soft stars that shine at night. Do not stand at my grave and cry, I am not there; I did not die.
You can also find it as a song, with modified lyrics, sung by Lizzie West. When Flakey (the kitty in my icon- short for Snowflake) passed away at not quite 18 after battling with chronic renal failure, the song and poem were a great comfort to me. You can find a video someone made for the song here: http://youtube.com/watch?v=sQ0uzo2-3Rk
Thank you very much for sharing - what wonderful and sad poem. I really enjoyed the song as well. Even though my oldest cat (Charlie in the icon) is only two years old I sometimes make myself cry thinking about the day when she will pass away. It's silly, I know, but I can't help it. I love her so very much and she has enriched my life so much. I can't imagine my life without her. I think that's the biggest negative side of having pets...one day you will have to say goodbye.
I don't have a very full journal and it's mostly about my cats but I'm a faithful friend and commenter. Would you like to do the friend thing? You seem to love your pets as much as I love mine and I think I'd enjoy reading more about you.
