Life is a walking cliche. Even mine. Street kid, bad seed that got scared straight, all that shit. But I gotta wonder...is that such a bad thing? I mean...a cliche is what it is because it’s tried and true, repeated and echoed until it loses some of its value and becomes diluted with use.
I grew up on the street. Life was hard...in fact, life was shit. Still...it was life. And given that our mom offed herself when we were six, we got a pretty up close and personal look early on at how valuable life can be. It also taught us...*me*...that even cliches can be interesting if you know how to work them.
So that’s what I’ve done...yeah, I screwed up in the beginning, but I’ve learned to work the cliche. Maybe even a little more than that...I mean, bad boy from the streets turns hardened criminal. I think that’s a little more worn out than bad boy mends his ways and makes good...especially *my* version of the story.
Maybe ‘cause I’m still a bad boy. So to speak...yes, Addie, I mean you. Don’t get any ideas unless they’re dirty and I’m present to enjoy ‘em.
I don’t play by the rules. I never have, and I never will. And you know what? I’m better for it. I do what I have to in order to survive, I live how I want to live, and I get the job done when I’m working. Every single damn time.
And if it gets me into trouble? Well...I just make sure if I’m going down for something, that the screw up was worth it. Like that time I punched out Silverman during basic training...yeah, I got time in the brig for that one, not to mention the day I told my superior officer to go suck an egg...
What? Least I didn’t cuss at him.
Call me an arrogant prick, but life is too short to settle for a cliche, even an interesting one. You gotta make it your own...make it memorable. Whether you’re taking an old one and making it new, or creating a bunch no one’s ever heard of, don’t matter how hard it is or how many fights you get into along the way.
After all, being unforgettable’s been cliche for a lot of years...but then Isadora Duncan snapped her neck taking a test drive, and wouldn’t you know? It had new meaning.
I don’t plan on hanging myself by automobile any time soon...but I think most of my fellow officers can agree that I’ve done a pretty good job of revamping that little gem right there.

Only got one life to live, I'm gonna live it, oh yeah
Some people say I go to far
I don't care, reachin' for the stars
Gonna climb that ladder to the top
Nothin' can stop me now
Well, look out world
'Cause here I come
Oh yeah, oh yeah
Life's a trial by fire
I'm gonna live my life, oh yeah
It's a trial by fire
So just roll the dice, oh yeah
And I'll take what I get
Can't listen to nobody else, you just got to believe in yourself
They'll criticize you and lay down the law
They'll say, just who do you think you are
Gonna live it till the rivers run dry
What've I got to lose
They just try and stop me, go ahead and try, oh yeah, oh yeah
Life's a trial by fire
So I'm gonna live it up, oh yeah, oh yeah
Trial by fire
So just roll the dice, oh yeah, oh yeah
Trial by, trial by fire
Never gonna give it up, oh yeah, oh yeah, oh yeah
People say I'm crazy
They don't understand
They haven't got a clue, oh no
They say, "Tell me everything"
They say, "Let me hear you sing"
I say, "Tell you what I'm gonna do", oh yeah
'Cause I'm gonna live my life the way I want to
Live it, live it the way I want ti
Trial by fire
I'm gonna live my life, oh yeah, oh yeah
Trial by, trial by fire
So just roll the dice, oh yeah, oh yeah
Trial by, trial by fire, fire
I'm gonna live it up, oh yeah, oh, oh, oh yeah
Trial by, yeah, fire, yeah
I'm gonna live it up, oh yeah
Trial by, yeah, yeah, fire, yeah
I'm gonna live my life, oh yeah
