What makes you think you have a chance with this guy if this friend doesn't? And if this "friend" is a good friend, she will understand. If she doesn't, then that is her loss. If you ask the guy and he rejects you, (yes, you should ask this guy, he is most likeny never going to ask you) then your friend never has to know.

my friend doesnt have a chance because she is nothing like him and he doesnt like her....at all really
