Which time period/culture would you prefer - Hellenistic, Medieval, Renaissance, Eastern Europe, Western Europe, Victorian, Modern (I leave out Asian because their practice while similar to alchemy is fundementally differing in its operation)?

now that I think of it, that was a pretty "general" question---should have known, but that's what happens at 4:30 in the morning....
The book that references it dosen't give it a time period, but it is most likely from the European, medieval to renaissance era. We'll just have to talk...
