So, we took Viv to see the Imagination Movers yesterday in Frederick, and a good time was had by all.
If you don't have small children in your life, you probably are like, WTF are Imagination Movers? Well, they're a kiddie pop/rock group that has a show on the Disney Channel that airs during Playhouse Disney. It's aimed at preschoolers and young elementary school kids, but Viv really enjoys them.
I have to admit, I do too. Of all the children's shows I am subjected to, the Movers are probably one of my favorites. The music is catchy and fun, and even though the lyrics are clearly aimed at kids, if you didn't listen to the lyrics you would never know it was kids music.
The show is pretty entertaining, if formulaic (which you would expect from a kiddie show): every show they have an 'idea emergency' in which there is a problem that they need to solve. They brainstorm and come up with ideas, then test their ideas to see which ones work. While it always ends the same way (they solve the problem), it teaches a couple of valuable lessons: how to identify a problem and form a hypothesis, how to test the hypothesis, how to keep trying and not give up, and teamwork. And it's a lot less annoying than many other shows out there (Dora, Max and Ruby, Wonderpets, Caillou.)
