Take a look at this horse.
Oh yeah, it's graphic, but decreasingly so.

Apparently this has been an ongoing and updated thing that I missed in one of the communities I moderate. (dur) I donated for the horsey, it's amazing how much he has healed!

Is...there nothing to be done for the exposed flesh? Bandages or something? It looks like one of those "holes in a cow" from a county fair gone horribly horribly ew.

hehe, this is a veterinary thing - it always looks bad to people when wounds are gaping open, but often times it's best. Anaerobic nfections under the skin that don't have air exposed to them are usually far worse than air-supplied, aerobic infections. It depends. With that large of wounds, though, I'm not sure much else could be done other than supportive stuff, keeping it clean to avoid infection, etc. Look how good it is now by comparison! It looks entirely scabbed over and there will be skin regrowth.

In the second set of pictures, they did put two 'stitches' into it to pull the skin back together.

But fuck county fairs. :)

Have you been checking out the RandomPictures community lately? Someone's been posting horsey pictures there about a horsie that's been getting better. As in more well-fed and no more crustypeniszomgwhatthehellisthat?!??!

It does look better, this horse. And I bet that horse gets alllll the ladies. "Oh, this? You think that's bad? You should see the other guy."

Don't mind me, I'm just rocking in the corner repeating OW all the time
