I had to get my oldest kitty put down today. The vet still isn't sure what was wrong with her. It's just left me really urgh. Her lymphnodes were swollen up so he thought she had cellulitis. We did a few days of antibiotics and Saturday she was showing improvement. But then this morning she had swollen back up again

I am very sorry to hear about your kitty. I know firsthand how difficult the decision to put her down was. Pets are a very big part of a family.

I know how hard it is to choose this, but the other choice is to put them through terrible difficulties they cannot understand. It takes someone strong to love them enough to let them go.

I hope the world is soft around you while you recover from your loss.

The options were exploratory surgery, and some kind of procedure where they drain stuff from the lymphnodes to see what was wrong. He was pretty sure it was a tumour or cancer. Either way he didn't recommend surgery at her age because she would have problems recovering.

And all the while the swelling in her lymphnodes were starting to constrict her breathing. So he said, all things considered, having her put down was the best option.

We have 5 other kitties at home that are making it--well I would say easier but that's not the right word. I guess I could say they're helping us cope.

*hugs* Very sorry; know this must be really hard for you. Glad the other cats are there - cuddling a cat always seems to help, doesn't it?

Oh yeah. They've even seemed extra cuddly since we got home yesterday.

Sorry about your kitty. I have had Thomas for about six years, I couldn't imagine not having fatass around.

been gone from LJ for months and just got back on and saw this, i'm so sorry to hear about your cat :( I have an 18 yr old and i know it's just a matter of time :( Hugs for you!! xx
