Gardaí at Thomastown, Co. Kilkenny have called for the mother of a 20 week-old male foetus which was found in Borris, Co. Carlow this morning, to come forward.
Gardaí are appealing for the mother of the foetus to make contact with them as there may be concerns for her health. She may contact them herself or through an intermediary.
A post mortem has been concluded and it has been determined that the foetus did not live independently.
Any communication will be dealt with with the utmost compassion and sensitivity.

I could be presuming a lot here, but I think we can prepare to see the Irish people, not least our politicians, bury their heads in the sand yet again on the issue of abortion, which, if it was legal, might see very sad cases like this become things of the past. I wonder what the background to the situation is. Mother terminated the pregnancy because she was single and / or an abuse victim and couldn't have the baby, coupled with no money to travel, and no-one to turn to?
