You can't plan anything without Mike's knowing about it, within, oh say, 48 hours.

He now knows that I am trying to plan something for him. It never seems to fail.

Ok, I want to set something up for him during Seadog and would like ideas.

Mike says that he is not even sure that will be able to go, however cause of bills and rent stuff. Yes I know

To forgo immediate pleasures for long term goals may be on Mikes mind. Having late bills are pings on credit scores and if you want to buy a home in the future that could very well be on his mind.
The best thing you can do is have the sit down and listen. Not talk, listen. He will tell you exactly what it is that will make him happy. You have to hear him and respect that his desire for financial security really may mean more to him. Celebrate him in the way that makes him most comfortable. If you push him to go to Seadog when its a financial risk he will go to make you happy.

To stay in on a budget you can host an all day MOVIE FEST of all the flicks he likes best and ask everyone to pot luck at your house for just a gathering about his favorite films.
