The fall of humanity

You know I really fear for the future of humans when stuff like this happens

Last year I had to deal with a student threatening to sue me and the school. Now while I certainly did not agree with that student they at least had a semilogical if selfcentered agrument. Today though we had to deal with a student who's grasp on reality is so ME-centric it's almost terrifing. This student is currently being dropping due to attendance AND failing grades. We have bent over backwards to try to work with this student and get them help for the "problems" that have supposedly plagued them. Yet time and again they have snubbed us by missing days on end and failing to do anything asked of them in class. 3 weeks ago they finally broke the rules far enough for us to say "Get out" They showed up this morning, LAWYER IN TOW, and annouced that they are sueing us for everything that "WE" did wrong to them. Needless to say we have literally whole files on this student and what we have tried to do to help them and how they have failed to live up even the most basic of professional standards we hold as school. By the end of the meeting even the lawyer was telling them to drop it.

To wit they left still acting as though everything was somebody else fault but their own.

Why is it this culture seems so focused on "who to blame?" instead of "How do we fix this?"
Are people like myself who want to find solutions without caring about who to beat up for failing really that rare? This is the kind of thing that keeps me up at night.
