CHARACTER INFORMATION-
Canon Character and Series: Iris / Phoenix Wright
In-Game Name: Iris Hawthorne, but she just goes by Iris.
Age: 25
Gender: Female
Position & Ship (first and second choice for position please): 4423 as a Healer, otherwise... I guess she'd be on the WW as a passenger.
Appearance: Being an identical twin, Iris has the same sweet face as her sister. The only difference between the two would be their hair, as Iris has black hair that is braided in the same style as Dahlia's (two braids wrapped around her hair like a crown, the rest falls to her neck, I think). She even carries herself with the same mannerisms as her sister, due to the fact that she had subbed as her sister once. Since Iris was raised in a shrine near Shasta, she often goes around wearing her shrine clothing (a weird purple get-up with a white hood) and is often mistaken for some kind of mystical new age hippie. That's not too far from the truth, though.
Personality: While Dahlia acts sweet, Iris actually is sweet and this is where the similarities between the two sisters end. Iris's concern for the wellbeing of other is genuine, as well as her kindness towards most people and her devotion to her sister. Iris is the kind of girl that you would bring your parents home and the kind of girl who would probably make the best kind of housewife: She always puts other people, especially her sister, above her own wishes and she has a habit of taking the blame for things that have nothing to do with her if she feels this will resolve the conflict smoothly (again, take her sister, though if she has enough reason to protect someone, this can count for anyone). In other words, Iris is practically a saint, for the most part.
However, her devotion towards Dahlia has caused her to do quite a few un-Irislike things, such as covering for her sister's multiple murders. Even though she is fully aware of the things her sister has done, Iris has never even once turned her to the authorities and instead does everything in her power to keep her sister out of danger. Despite this, Iris doesn't let her sister get away with everything - she once tried to act in Dahlia's place to retrieve an important piece of evidence, so that Dahlia's hands wouldn't be stained with more blood. The trouble with Iris that she still doesn't seem to realize or accept the fact that Dahlia wouldn't mind dipping her hands in a tank of slaughtered babies if it would get her what she wanted.
In short, although Iris tries to do the right thing, her overwhelming need to protect people who are important to her can drive her to do the most insane things.
Abilities/Weapons: Iris does not have the spiritual power to channel spirits or use very powerful magic, but she is a member of a family known for it's spiritual powers and spending time in Shasta with the mana crystals and taking care of a shrine near the town with her aunt has improved Iris's spiritual senses. She actually is capable of telling if magic has warped the nature of an object - or in other words, she can tell if shit is haunted/cursed or otherwise heavily modified with magic. This may or may not be useful.
Otherwise, she is also knowledgeable in how mana crystals work and the different kinds, considering how she grew up in Shasta and her father dabbled in the business there.
Weaknesses: Her obvious physical weakness aside, Iris is a doormat. A huge one. If she had a middle name, it'd be “Welcome”. Iris is simply too trusting sometimes, especially when it comes to her sister, and she can be easily manipulated into helping with the most horrific crimes, something that her twin sister Dahlia is quick to take advantage of. It's not limited to just Dahlia though - anyone could use Iris, as she's not the sharpest tool in the shed, nor is she very hard to sway in the first place if the right lies are used.
Iris also tends to be a bit naive, to go along with the fact she is too trusting. Since she grew up in an isolated shrine, she's a bit ignorant of how the world actually works.
History: Iris was born with her twin sister Dahlia to one Morgan Fey, a woman who wanted to take leadership of the clan she was in. Since her own spiritual power was weak, she hoped that she could live this dream through her daughters, but it turned out that neither twin had a drop of power within them. Her interest in her daughters and husband quickly faded, and her husband notices, eventually getting a divorce and taking the two girls with them. He traveled to the town of Shasta, where he would make his fortune mining mana crystals. It was here that he met another woman, and married, introducing a stepsister into the family named Valerie.
However, Iris knew very little of her stepsister, as before her father moved to another location in Vohemar with his riches, Dahlia had convinced her father to leave Iris behind. Of course, Iris didn't know this and simply assumed she was left with her aunt Bikini because she was a burden. One would have thought that Iris would have grown up to be bitter over this, but with guidance from her lovable aunt, Iris accepted and even actually came to enjoy her new life. It was very peaceful in the temple, supposedly a training ground for those from the Fey family which Iris was a part of, and she spent her days happily caring for the place. Surrounded by mana crystals, and taking part in meditation exercises, Iris actually gained some power, proving that the twins did probably have a slight sense of spiritual powers; certainly not enough to please Morgan, but it was there nonetheless.
However, the years dragged by, and Iris longed to see her sister again. Her wish came true years later when they were both 14. Dahlia approached Iris with a plan, one that would make all of the rich. The plan itself was rather disturbing: Dahlia wished to steal an exceptionally rare mana crystal and run away with Valerie, Terry and herself. Iris agreed, because she wanted to stay with her sister and less about the money. However, she had numerous second thoughts about the idea and eventually had to bow out, not wanting to take part in something so horribly. Although this didn't seem to bother Dahlia, Iris found herself flip-flopping over her decision, not sure if she should abandon her sister by doing the right thing.
In the end, Iris ended up going to the Hegue River, the planned meeting spot, and ended up having the best timing ever: Dahlia had jumped in the river with the mana crystal, and Iris was there to intercept her sister and save her from being washed away in the rapids. The plan worked, Terry was framed, and Iris and Valerie helped Dahlia take on the identity of “Melissa Foster”. For five years, this guise worked, and it was five happy years Iris spent in contact with her sister, although the visits were far and few inbetween. After those five years though, the past reared it's ugly head and Valerie decided to come clean about the crime.
In short, Dahlia ended up killing off both Terry and Valerie, and managed to save herself for a year, until a defense attorney tried to catch up with the case. Dahlia ended up trying to off him too, and she hid the evidence (a necklace that could hold poison) by handing it off to a random man in the courthouse. At this point, Iris feared that her sister had shed too much blood and when she heard of Dahlia's plan to off the poor boy who had been given her necklace, Iris offered to step in and retrieve it. Dahlia agreed, and they switched places. Iris tried for eight months to get the necklace back from the stranger, even falling in love, but Dahlia grew impatient and soon, her time was up. Luckily, or maybe unluckily, Dahlia was caught murdering yet another man in her attempt to get the necklace back and although she succeeded, she was forced to flee.
Iris once again covered up for her sister by claiming she had died, and the two held contact with each other for five years while Dahlia was hiding out in Ivona. Although Iris wished to join her and keep her sister from having to soil her hands, it was clearly a bad idea if Iris was seen with Dahlia and if Dahlia was seen with Iris. Finally, though, Iris got her chance when she heard that the pirate vessel, called the 4423, was looking for a doctor. Since she was knowledgeable in first aid and how to use both traditional and some conventional medicine, Iris was more than happy to volunteer.
Her real reason for joining, however, was simply because Dahlia had told her that she was on a ship as well - it was just another thing that they could do together without actually being together. It was a sweet sentiment on Iris's part, but she still hasn't seemed to realize that the only reason Dahlia is letting her live is because Dahlia isn't able to afford a gullible body double and has to make do with her twin.
SAMPLES-
Third Person (roleplay):
(Dahlia played by Mary, which is why we have the same sample. Lawl. 8D)
"Turn left," Dahlia typed, knees curled up to her chest as she rested between a few wooden boxes and the side of the deck. There was the sound of shouting coming up from the world beyond her box-shields, but she didn't pay much mind. For now, it was time to play "watch both sides lose" with Iris.
On the other side of the battlefield, Iris was making a show of herself furiously typing those commands to her fellow shipmates, smiling when she felt the ship turn in that direction. Oh, she did hate it when the 4423 was forced into a battle. It was such a good thing that her sister Dahlia almost happened to be on the attacking ship, the Victoria II.
"Thank you," She typed back, scanning the journal entries for the next course of action. Iris wouldn't know what to do with herself if she couldn't keep Dahlia safe...
"They're going to try and hit the engines from this angle, you should probably raise the ship," Iris informed her, hoping Dahlia wasn't hiding anywhere near there.
"Gottcha," Dahlia typed back before sharing the suggestion with her shipmates through the journal. Really, it was funny to watch everyone on the ship squirm to do just that--well, it WOULD be if she could see over the boxes she hid herself behind. She remembered when they didn't believe them the first time they tried this game but, after a few rounds, it was declared the girls had some sort of keen insight into the mind of the enemy.
She figured she'd let them keep believing that. It was cute. The cheering and free cake was a plus, too. Well, it would be if either side could ever get a hit in.
"They're going to aim for the deck," she typed again, then pulled the journal quickly to her chest after a few shadows went past her hiding place. Once they didn't come back, she added, "If that fails, they're going for the cannons."
Indeed, no one had thought it was strange that Iris had the strange ability to predict the enemy's movements, almost to perfect accuracy. Iris had explained it away with her training as a nun and her minimal amount of spiritual power, but to tell the truth, she had nowhere near that amount of power. She felt rather bad deceiving them like this, but...
Iris just couldn't fail her sister! She figured it was alright, as long as she kept the 4423 out of harm. No one was really getting hurt, so this wasn't exactly bad, was it? War was rather horrible anyway, so Iris actually felt much better knowing she was keeping everyone safe, and not just Dahlia. So, with that in mind, she continued to relay her sister's orders and stayed alert for orders from the captain.
"We're going to try and fake a dive into that trench," Iris duitfully replied back. "And then pull out at the last minute. Please do try to avoid going too far, or you might crash into the trench."
Iris paused when she thought she heard people banging on her door, but it was just the crew above.
"Dahlia, are you alright? You haven't been hurt, have you?"
"I'm fine, Iris." You could almost see the roll of her eyes in the text. She stopped again and watched the Grand Admiral stalk past in a particularly annoyed manner. Probably mad that no real action was happening. It served him right, that pissy little worm. She gave the information to the crewmembers and listened to their muffled voices carrying out the commands.
"They're going to try to hit you guys from up here. You should move to the left again." It was nice, really, having her sister on the other ship. It was a game that would go back and forth; they'd share the information and pretend it was something they'd heard in the Astral Plain or some nonsense. Dahlia had created a whole story, complete with vivid bullshit descriptions about how her psychic powers let her see into the future. 'Oh no!' she would cry, palms to the side of her head, 'They're going to hit us from the right side!' 'Watch out for snakes!'
Oh, it was good.
Still, she had to be careful. "Don't get caught, either. If they figure out what you're doing, they'll come down on me too."
It was sort of funny how lightly Dahlia took everything, when Iris was practically shaking in fear at the mere thought of one of the rounds fired from their ship hitting the Victoria II... maybe the part where Dahlia was on! And, she had the added weight of her crewmates in mind, especially when she heard the ship shudder as rounds flew past them.
"Please don't worry about me, Dahlia." Iris hurriedly typed, while she was trying to relay the command back to her superiors. It looked like they made it out in time, although the sudden shift in turning almost made Iris fall right out of her bed. She let out a yelp, clutching the journal to her chest and trying to right herself in the bed.
"kdlsjdkal983!" was the resulting text spew to Dahlia, which Iris blushed heavily over.
"Oh, I'm sorry. We just dodged that attack." Iris typed in apology. "And I will be careful, dear sister. I have to protect you." She smiled at the sentiment, glad she was able to do something for her beloved sister.
Dahlia, on the other hand, could only press her palm to her forehead and shake her head. Were they seriously related…?
One of the crewmembers passed by again, making Dahlia press herself as close to the floor and the shadows in the tiny corner she was in as much as she could. You'd think they wouldn't come by this much, but no. Didn't they have somewhere else they needed to be? And they called HER useless. The nerve of them.
Once the coast was clear, Dahlia typed back to her complete failure of a sister. "They're reloading now. You guys have some time to do… whatever."
She could hear some shouting about the border closing, which meant this terrible battle would soon be over. Added to the very good news that they were close to the border, and Iris was thrilled to know that they had avoided a major battle at the moment. Really... she had done something great for her crewmates, she thought.
Regardless, with all the nasty turns and twists that they made, she was sure there would be injuries to tend to. And that meant... she would have to say goodbye to Dahlia, at least for now. Iris sighed, typing this news rather sadly.
"We are reaching the border, we should be there in about 3 minutes. I suppose this is goodbye for now, Dahlia. I have people to tend to." She frowned, fingers hovering over the keys in a moment. Well, it was for the best... she was sure Dahlia would have things to attend to once the Victoria II had ceased chasing them.
"I'll be able to speak to you again soon, right?" Iris finally typed.
Ha! Looked like the admiral was really pissed now. She could practically feel him seething from where she sat, aside from just hearing the ear shattering screeching he was doing. Dahlia practically had to use all her will to keep herself from laughing and giving away her position.
But then Iris had to go and ruin her moment by being a sap. "Of course," she said while staring through a crack between the boxes. Looked like everyone was trying their best to go after the other ship. "It's not like it's impossible to get into contact. Just don't call me while I'm working and it'll be fine."
"I will see you again, then!" Iris happily typed back. It was probably a good thing that she couldn't see her sister's face, because for all the things Iris knew about her sister, she was still clueless as to how low Dahlia thought of her.
Hearing voices calling for her, Iris shut the journal and hid it under her bed, wondering what kind of things Dahlia was doing on the ship before she ran off to tend to the wounded crewmates.
First Person (journal):
[filtered to Dahlia]
I'm in the Infirmary of the 4423. I'm their healer, it's quite exciting knowing I'll be able to help everyone here. The captain is such an accomplished girl, such a prestigious role at only the age of fifteen! She's very talented. I'm sorry to hear that you are not getting along with the Admiral, but I don't think giving him some of your tea is necessary...
Oh, Dahlia, don't you think it's a bit dangerous to go out in the open like that though? I can get the ingredients for you, if you don't mind. I just don't want to risk you getting caught, plus it's not usual for me to go and get some herbs, since I use them in my work, not to mention I would also like to go to Boston in the fall. But let me know if you need me to switch places with you, alright?

Please do not hesitate to seek me if you need treatment for any ailment that ills you, be it a headache, upset stomach, or things you are too embarrassed to tell other people about. Everything will be between us!
I am looking forward to meeting you all!
