Iron Trash Canned Tuna Challenge

Let's get the contest rolling. May I present *drumroll*

Trashy Tuna Hotdish

Ingredients

2 cans of tuna (yes I know it’s brand name, but it was on sale), a can of peas, a can of white beans, a can of mushrooms, a can of cream of mushroom soup, a package of dried onion soup mix, milk, sour cream, leftover cheese, the remnants of a bag of potato chips, and pasta. Dried cilantro because I couldn’t find the parsley.

Step 1: Get the water going for the pasta.

Step 2: Open all the cans. Wish for a better can opener.

Step 3: Drain and rinse the beans and peas and drain the mushrooms. Drain the tuna but save the juice, and make the cats happy.

Step 4: Throw all the canned stuff (including the mushroom soup) into a bowl, add half a can of milk, the onion soup, and a big honking spoonful of the sour cream. Mix well.

Step 5: When the water boils, add a little bit of salt and the pasta. Put the lid on the pot, turn off the heat, and let sit for 12 minutes (or longer if you use bigger pasta). While that’s cooking, preheat the oven to 350 F.

Step 6: Drain the pasta, give it a quick cold water rinse, and shake the crap out of the colander to get all the water out. Mix pasta with the rest of the stuff in the bowl.

Step 7: Spray some of that non-stick stuff on a 9x13 baking dish, and pour in the mix from the bowl. Spread evenly in the dish.

Step 8: Top dish with leftover cheeses (I had three cheese Italian, Colby-jack, and a little chunk of queso fresco, AKA Mexican crumbling cheese).

Step 9: Work out your frustrations on the potato chips until they are well crushed. Sprinkle over the cheese. Top with dried cilantro.

Step 10: Put the pan in the oven. Go watch about an episode and a half of Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives (45 minutes or so). Take the pan out and let it set up.

Step 11: Chase the cats off the dining room table, wipe down table, discover holes in the new tablecloth, and yell at the cats. Scoop some of the hotdish onto your favorite plate, add a couple of garlic sticks you reheated in the oven after you took the pan out, grab a bottle of your favorite beverage, and enjoy.

OK, judges, have at it!
