No, I am putting the boat back into charter for most of the year. There are a couple of companies here that lease their boats off private persons. If I have done the numbers correct it should earn enough to cover all its annual marina and maintenance costs and still come out slightly ahead.

The contract I have allows me unlimited free use of the boat, but of course everytime I do that it is not earning money. So it is as much as investment as a life style. I will use it mostly in the low tourist season.

I will sail it back to Oz in about 2 years and hopefully get about the same as I paid for it here. Then come back and buy a bigger one .... hahahah

Because I travel so much and go back to Oz to see family at least once a year I am only in Laos 6-9 months a year anyway. I will still use Laos as my home base but split my time a bit more evenly between "home" and "away".

So if you are every this way I will take you sailing.

Great that you have called it Mausgras!

But isn't the low season when it rains and storms all the time?

Yes, and a tourist boat went down coming back from Phi Phi Island this week too. Everyone was quickly rescued however. The locals here are a bit were efficient (or willing) than the Indonesian navy.

But otherwise it is a bit like sailing in a bathtub. The real problem is finding enough wind.

I will use the next two years building up experience before attempting anything really adventurous.
