Apparently cars and I are not good friends and don't get along very well though it's not my driving that needs the serious improvement.
So the story is that yesterday, on my way to work, I was in a car wreck. It was on East Colonial right by the 417 overpass, for those of you who know the Orlando area. The rain had stopped, I was in the middle lane, and 2 cars made a left-turn to cross my lane from my right side. This would have been mostly ok with my brakes if the second one (who ran the stop sign by following the first) hadn't paused in my lane and had continued to the middle of the road. I honked my horn and attempted swerving to the left to avoid hitting her and her passengers as well as the cars on my right. She only moved forward after I swerved. Then my car t-boned hers right about in the middle and she did a 180 while my bumper fell off and hood got crunched. The chief (I was told) of fire rescue was 2 cars behind me when it happened (I think he's the one that saw her run the stop sign) and he got the police there pretty quick. The accident was considered her fault and my car was totaled.
As far as injuries go, the passenger behind her spent the night in the hospital and between them I know of some stitches, a broken rib, and a bruised colon. Since my car was head-on, my injuries weren't nearly as bad. I'm mostly REALLY sore and achy and have a sleight chemical burn on my arm.
At the emergency room, even though I told them there was no chance of pregnancy, they made me pee in a cup before they'd take my x-rays. When the tech put a lead apron over my lap to take pictures of my arm, I said something about protecting things that weren't growing inside me. He said that he was going to protect my ovaries since he'd be blasting them in a few minutes. I found that a funny statement. The doctor wanted to give me medications that don't work for me. She wouldn't relent on the Motrin because she insisted in was prescription strength, no matter how much I told her that I can't get motrin/advil/tylenol/aleve to work on me without absolutely insane dosages that I'm not willing to do to my organs (like at least 6 of them to TOUCH a headache, not to make it go away). She relented on Skelaxin since I'd had that before and it hadn't had any effect on me whatsoever. I had to get the Motrin prescription remedied today so that I could get something that I could feel helping me and wouldn't tear major holes in my stomach. My phone died early with all the relatives and insurance people wanting me on the phone.
So now, I'm in the market for a new car and I'm a little bit dopey. But yes, that's the update of the moment.
