You really only need to worry about copywriting it when you stamp that big COPYRIGHT-BIRD onto it., Till then, like you said, the creator of Pumaman probably has other worries currently, like weepingf over the plight of being the creator of Pumaman.

mmm... prydain... i loved those books. As for your character, as long as it is actually your creation and truly "infinitessimally" similar to this other person's pumaman, then sure go for it. Even if you don't go for it, sounds like you're having fun with the creation of the fan fiction and you should keep that up as well.
