The first night in Rivelata, Utena slept on a neat pallet on Rangiku's floor.
Making it neat took some effort(mostly on the part of Utena; her host seemed less than inclined to clean up the clutter on the floor), but it was comfortable enough and warm. Rangiku fell asleep first, and Utena stared at the ceiling. She marveled briefly at the fact that she could hear Rangiku breathing, and after pondering the logistics of a death god having to breathe(there was nothing at all logical about it, to Utena), she continued her aimless staring.
Here, there were no constellations. No Castor and Pollux to stare at as she drifted off to sleep. No Venus. She was grateful for it. She was tired of stars. They were unattainable, and from a distance there was nothing solid about them, nothing real. Stars burned out.
What is eternity?
Her hand clenched, reached for another hand that wasn't there, then relaxed.
It took her a long time to fall asleep.
