Irulan entered her walk-in closet to retrieve the hat she would wear for the day. Instead of her collection, what met her was this:

As one the women turned their attention to Irulan. "Good morning, mistress."

"..." Irulan then after collecting her wits, stated, "You're my hats and headpieces."

"We are," they said again.

"I see."

"Do you require one of us, mistress?"

A statuesque woman approached her. "You don't wear me any more, mistress."

Irulan stared. "Which--" she paused, took in her layered dress, "You're my butterfly headpiece. I thought you would have more butterflies or--"

"You do not like my appearance?"

"I like your appearance I just commented on the difference. You're hair is different than what I thought." Also, you're really tall. Irulan turned and called for her servant, if she sounded a little desperate, she could be forgiven. Her servant appeared then gaped at the gaggle of women in her closet.

"They are my hats," Irulan informed her servant, "It seems that they have turned human. Will you please accommodate them while I am at the shop?"

Irulan didn't wait for the response and beat a hasty retreat.

28 sphinx street, hats are alive!
