After some happy news about Dell to start offering Ubuntu on its desktops, I decided to install it on my mother's new computer which actually looked pretty decent. However, the experiment has failed ...

Some people like my mother will never be ready for linux, back to reinstalling Windows. eh

"Hello, I am a Mac"
"And I am a PC"
"I come complete with what everything I think everyone needs - itunes, etc and I don't give a f**k that there may be other things people need"

i really don't want to start a flame war here, to each its own. windows come with everything they think they need as well, half of that garbage should never be installed in the first place.

Just like noone wants to drive 5 speed any more, linux will not be favored until it gets it's user stuff straight. And it will never do that until it is commercial.
P.S. Get her an xbox

ubuntu is very user friendly. the problem is that it's not windows, the emulators i tried to use do not emulate everything. 1 little change confuses her, my bf had no problems using kde, I think he actually liked it and he never used linux before.

got myself a mac in 2002 and never looked back since.
In fact, it is more user friendly than windows. Linux isn't. Any other Linux distro has different UI and a toolset. Linux drivers are nightmare.
