what kind of fish do you have?

i just got a fish a few weeks ago...killed the first one cuz the water was too cold =( didn't notice him doing anything that looked like coughing though. but then i got a heater for my tank and new fish is very happy.

According to the internet (not so reliable but hey...), fishes cough when the water is polluted, so I change the water, not too cold, I was carefull. And he's not coughing anymore. Thanks for the advice.
And I guess it's a plain goldfish. I don't really know, akalteke offered it to me ! :)

How was it before your first one died ?

goldfish are coldwater fish so yeah, it must have been dirty water. as long as you keep up with water changes every month you should be fine...and when you do a water change you should only change about 1/4 to 1/3 of the water...don't shock poor fishy by giving him too much fresh water at once =)

i got a platy and they are tropical so they like water that's in the high 70's (farhenheit) and since i live in the basement it's chilly so i needed the heater.
