Interesting read. I find (possibly) sexualised images and toys for girls a very difficult topic, because I know that, in general, they are a problem, but it's often difficult to reason why exactly based on a single product.

Also a small nitpick; Barbie isn't a mother, though her friend Midge is.

Apparently anything that is a) beyond child-years, b) wearing make-up of any sort and c) not dressed like a nun will offend someone out there :/

She isn't? I thought there was this whole preggers-Barbie O_o was that a Tina then?

There have been pregnant 'teenage dolls' (aka fake Barbies) out there for donkey's years, but Mattel themselves didn't produce one until the early 2000's. And even then it wasn't Barbie herself, but her friend Midge. So you're sorta right - there was a preggers doll in the Barbie line, it just wasn't Barbie. Which is a negligible distinction for most, but since you were talking about developed characters...

Honestly, I didn't know Barbie had Official Friends for years. Might be living in Den Helder with tiny toy stores and tiny stock or just marketing neglect, but it was always barbie first, horses/Ken second, Skipper and that even wee'er sister and then at the end of the line there were Some Other People.

... now I have to ask, though, who was the father?

This weekend my sister and I were over at my other sister. Sister 1 showed me her Howleen (Clawdeen's younger sister, 12 years old I think?) Sister 2's boyfriend saw the doll and said: "She has no tits or ass, but wears tons of make-up. It does not make sense ( ... )
